The story of Kaspar Hauser is a strange one. He just appears in the town of Nuremberg, Germany on May, 26, 1828. He is a teenager but unable to speak normally and was wild and unkempt. He is found holding a note addressed to a certain captain of the sixth cavalry. It says that the writer can no longer care for him and he asks that the captain either train him in the calvary or hang him. The anonymous author says he was ordered to keep the boy and never let him step out of the house. With time the young teen begins to remember being kept in a dark room and fed bread and water. He was taken to the captain's who didn't know anything about this boy and then to the police. He was able to read a little, wrote his name and knew a few prayers. He ended up being taken to the Nuremberg tower and kept by a jailer, Andreas Hittel. The boy was in adequate good health and determined to be about sixteen years of age. He would say that he wanted to be a cavalryman like his father. One day he doesn't show up for a meal and is found with a deep stab wound to the left breast. He died of the wound on December, 17, 1833. It is said he was born on April, 30,1812. Theories about his family and how he came to be in the city center but it is a mystery to this day. One is that he is the Grand Duke of Baden. Here is more on the story:

How sad for this young fella to have to lead a life like that. Maybe he had suffered some kind of emotional trauma and it left him like that. Of course then there would be no kind of treatment and they would not know what to do about him. But they could have treated him better than that for sure.

Isn't it though. Being shut up for most of his life. What a waste.
