Saying Goodnight to Duke

Skip saying goodnight to Duke

Today ... Skip and I visited Duke in his kennel several times ... then just at dusk we visited him to say goodnight. We loved, petted, talked to him. Duke's favorite spot to get when we come inside his kennel is on top of his dog house. Skip sits on one corner, I sit on the other. Duke jumps up with his chew bone ... and seems so content to have us sit there petting, rubbing him while we talk to him, to each other. Duke is settling down good in his new home. Kissy and Camie, our other two Pups don't bark at all like they did when we brought Duke home on the 17th of January. I go outside to feed Duke his breakfast each morning, evening in his kennel. I make sure it's spotless. No dirty kennel for this special baby. I laugh at Duke when I take fresh bowls out to him each meal. I put the bowl from last night on the ground in front of the kennel ... until I'm ready to go out. Usually there's dry food left in the stainless steel bowl ... Duke will run to eat it all instead of his fresh food I brought to him! Isn't that smart? His fresh food will be there for him for later. When we were sitting there loving Duke ... telling him goodnight, we'd see him in the morning ... we talked about if we could give him to someone now. We have decided we can't ... unless someone could even possibly give him a much better life where he'd be so loved, cared for. We love him ... he is in our Hearts just as Kissy (our Rottie) ... and Camie (our other rescue Pup, Australian Blue Heeler mixed). Skip and I said goodnight to Duke, we left the kennel after locking the gate. Duke didn't bark. It feels good he is settling down and doesn't feel the need to jump, bark. We are all getting used to Duke and Duke is getting used to all of us ... and our love for him. Goodnight Duke ... you are in your forever home now ... with so much love, caring. We will protect you, make sure you have good food, water and never be alone.

@GrannyGee that is wonderful. We did that with our second cat. We took him in when somebody threw him outside because she didn't want him anymore. We were going to find him a good home but it wasn't too long before he stole our hearts and we became his forever home.

All of you are blessed. Duke is one very handsome pittie. I'll be sayin a prayer that he will get along well with your other two really soon, poor thing probably never got socialized. Have you tried to walk him yet?
