Have you ever felt lost and at the same time you have found so much etermination and strength to find your own place in this world? So, this movie is right for you (and also for all those who know how to enjoy an incredible movie)!
The film follows the story of the young Saroo who, after losing his brother in the streets of Calcutta, is adopted by an Australian couple. So, 20 years after it was adopted he decides - with the help of the Google Earth application - to look for its true origins and with that, starts a real journey... And omg, what a beautiful jorney back to home.
The script (very well written by Saroo Brierley and Luke Davies) it's incredibly touching and manages to approach a subject so difficult and complicated in a dense and tense manner at the same time. Everything in the right measure, without exaggerating in anything (what could have happened easily with this type of film, which is usually full of cliches... but it doesn't happen here).
The direction of Garth Davis ("Top Of The Lake" TV series) is quite impressive for those who are starting on the big screen. He gets a very consistent job (more than i expected), without too many gaps for errors (which are minimal, by the way), and brings about an extremely satisfying result. It was a shame he was not nominated for an Oscar for best director, because he definitely had a lot of potential to have been nominated.
Sunny Pawar plays Saroo in a very captivating way, Dev Patel (Saroo adult) has the best acting of his career to date, Priyanka Bose (Saroo's mother) is quite convincing, David Wenham and Rooney Mara do a pretty cool job, but who steals the scene (despite the little screen time) is Nicole Kidman, who is incredible (so much that she got her fourth Oscar nomination for this film), adding another excellent job / role / performance to her career (by the way, the monologue that she stars in is heartbreaking).
The technical aspects also deserve a lot of attention: a great soundtrack that positively elevates the powers of the scenes where they stand out, a very well made edition and a beautiful and very expressive photograph.
"Lion" is one of the best movies based on true stories I've seen in years. You definitely have to give yourself the pleasure of watching this movie in theaters. I can guarantee you won't regret it.
P.S: "Lion" received 6 Oscar nominations.

I am interested in eventually seeing Lion. I thought Garth Davis might get a director nomination.
