Zuckerberg not a very nice person - lets replace Facebook

You know, the founder of Facebook, that Zuckerberg... I had read an article about how he had bought property on the north shore of Kauai, and was trying to push out native who live in pockets on some of that land. They own it due to a law from the 1800's, but don't have paper documents, so he is trying to get them evicted. So I was chatting with this guy who lived near his San Francisco place who said he was a real jackass to the neighbors, blocking their properties when he had work done and such. So anyway we started talking about a replacement site. Theoretically, we'd get a group of computer analysts together, and some programmers, form a worker collective and design a site where the owners aren't arrogant jerks and which doesn't spy on everybody. So if this theoretical social site were to become a reality, what would you want to see on it. What do you really like about sites you have been on, what do you dislike, what could you not live without and what is a must have?

I dislike Facebook as it is. And Zuckerberg is idol and liberal icon to millennials and now we know what kind of person he really is. That's who they think is wonderful?

I doubt they know any details about him.

Nobody is forced to have a Facebook account, I closed mine several years ago. Zuckerberg spent $30 millions to buy the 4 homes around his house in Palo Alto just to demolish them. For what I read he wants to force any owner of small pieces of land on his Hawaiian property to sell them. I think that these people can make a very good deal.

I think the point is that they don't want to make a deal. It's been their family's land for a long, long time...

@dawnald I read that a large number of people having rights on these lands were not living there anymore. I might be wrong, but I do not think that land has the same symbolic value in Polynesia than in our countries. Some of the lands I own are in my family since several centuries, but there are not a lot that I would not sell to Zuckerberg if he was offering a good check.

Although I have a Facebook account, but I am not active there. But it is a good website to find lost friends. As to Zuckerberg, I don't know him much. But in my impression he is a modest person and he hasn't showed off how rich he is. He still wears the simple T-shirt all the time.

From what I hear, Zuckerberg's neighbors would disagree with you. He's not showing off with clothing maybe, but by inconveniencing them. But I agree Facebook is a good place to catch up with people.

Why don't we all just go back to myspace? Or is that Tom guy not so nice either? Theoretically, aren't nearly all zillionaires greedy little things anyway?

It is still there. I get the occasional myspace email.

@dawnald I don't even remember the email I had set up for myspace. I had two different myspace profiles.

I didn't realize he was such a jerk. I kind of grew to like facebook but I didn't like it at first. If something were to come out of it for something better I would be happy. I miss myspace, the old one. I liked that.

Like where short posts are all bold but if they're longer they're not?

Him and this property was on a cable show I watch about the rich. I can see where he wants to have complete privacy but not at the detriment of native people. As far as the site goes I like a lot of the things Facebook has. I just don't like the spying.

I didn't know all that about him ! Well this is a tough one. I mostly like Facebook . . . but I don't like the psychological aspects of what happens there (something that's not Facebook's fault . . . it just happened to happen on social media period). I don't like the spying thing (it's actually quite creepy). And I don't like that the newsfeed is apparently only what they pick and choose for us.

I really miss Multiply. It was so easy to organize it and go back and find things.

@dawnald Why did it ever go down? Was it a $ thing as it often is? Not a problem for Mr. Z apparently.

Im sure some smart person will create a new social media account and will make an old site out of face book. Just like how friendster went out on it's own.

Probably a bunch of people will try and few will succeed...
