On the Hot Seat....

Did you ever watch Who Wants the Millionaire on TV, when the contestant is on the hot seat with their final answer? That's where I am now with my manuscript Venom after a long consideration from this literary agent I'm waiting to hear for. .. at long lost. Long time short, I've been waiting for an answer from her for five years. She was the first agent who asked for Venom's full in its original version, and have been very patient with me, when she asked for a Revise and Resubmit (my first one I ever received), after she had given me my first set of personalized feedback from her. I considered her my dream agent. She told me to be patient and not to rush my revisions, in spite of what I went through for the past four years since 2011-2015 (computer issues, heart surgery, mother being sick and then passing away, then my muse was on hiatus for a long while.) I've haven't heard from her since July 2015, when she asked for any new projects I had. I've sent her two partials for Chain Reaction and Double Exposure. She told me they were in the queue and would get back to me. She never did! So I've nudged her every 3-6 months. The last nudges I did was two weeks before Thanksgiving and then two weeks ago. With no word and hearing crickets, other than the standard auto-replies, I've nudged her via Direct Message on Twitter. No word. So I've taken this bull by the curved horns and nudged her via Facebook messenger. Success! I didn't hear from her but another agent at the same agency. She told me to send her Venom's full manuscript and my two partials for her yesterday afternoon. She would get with the agent I've queried to give me an answer, instead of keeping me hanging on by a very thin thread. Though the response time in her submission guidelines to queries is three weeks, for partial and full requests, it's a bit longer. So that's where I am with Venom right now. I'll be sending it out to her in an hour as I speak. Though I'm included a note to this agent with a mini submission history and how it's undergoing final revisions, since I received two R&Rs for it. The same for Chain Reaction, my other manuscript. Since I've put Double Exposure on hold, since my beta is sidelined with another project for a few months, I'm swapping it in exchange for a partial of my newest manuscript, Diplomatic Immunity, next week, after I tweak some minor changes from feedback from my other beta on it. One way or another, I would get a final answer from the agency in general, hopefully for her. I'll be happy and thrilled if I get a R&R for her to join the other two, or a full offer, followed by the CALL! Or I'll be relieved, if it's declined after a long wait, so I close it out as a rejection and try them with something else in the future. I wouldn't mind getting any personalized feedback over than the standard form rejection of no thanks. I was going to officially close it out as a No Response next week, too. I can only hope for good news on two of the three manuscripts I've sent out, if not one manuscript overall. Remember when I posted about feeling sick to my stomach in a live pitch at a writers conference last summer? And then I almost peed in my pants, before I felt like Rocky back then? That's how I feel now, other than feeling sick to my stomach. Cross your fingers. Say a prayer! If I hear anything between now and then, I'll let you know with celebratory news or consoling hugs. I hope my mother up above is watching over me and sending me good vibes, since she helped me out with my computer drama last month last year as well.

Good luck, I can easily imagine how you feel. I used to watch "Who Wants the Millionaire", I remember a player who won and I remember that I also knew all the replies

Thank you Anna. And that show is still on the air to this day with Chris Harrison from the "Bachelor" franchise.

@KristenH It's no more on the air here, may be it will come back later in the year.

@LadyDuck How odd. Maybe they're reproducing a new season.

Do you mean you would actually let it go after all the work you did on it if you got a decline?

Of course not. I would just close out my submission for that agent as a rejection at Querytracker.com and wait to hear from her other agent from now until April. I did send her a thank you email yesterday that I would prefer a R&R over a rejection and heard back from the same agent today--she said wonderful, and that she'll keep in touch on it. So I'm hopeful it would head over that way.

@just4him Yes it is. My beta said that's good news. 2 chapters done, 30 to go.

Thanks Jessica. I should hear something by April, an early birthday present for me would be nice.

Me too. I hope this agent could see how I was left "hanging on" with no answer for almost two years. Thanks!
