In 2009 I work as a medical transcriptionist. I thought the job is easy because you are just going to listen and type. There are also many medical terms that you need to spell correctly. It looks easy because your just sitting in the chair for long hours. I find out the job is not simple. It was hard at first and became easy after a long while. You have to have good comprehension skills and good in details. It's not easy to sit for long hours. It's very painful at the back.

@JudyEv Yes that's true but you will get familiar with it if you hear it often

@averygirl72 Understanding the terminology would be quite difficult for starters.

Transcription always sounds easy until you have to deal with accents and mumblers and all sorts of things. It is easier as you go along, I miss doing transcription. The most I can do anymore is captioning my own youtube videos haha

Yeah those accent and mumblers and some tough audios make the work harder. Yeah captioning videos in youtube is fun. You have your own youtube channel?

While my son-in-law did not find employment yet as a nurse, he also tried his hand at medical transcription but only part-time. He later stopped when he became a regular nurse at the provincial hospital. Now he's abroad with my daughter who works as an ER nurse while he's employed as a medical coder in another hospital.

Yes most of the people in medical transcription company I worked are nurses. That's nice to know they are now working abroad.

Sedentary work tends to be hard on the body and mind...and especially doctors' or medical work. And you have to be so careful and precise, because a misspell word could mean something else. And people's health is at risk. Hope you love what you do.

I did learn to love my work even if it has some hard part like sitting for many hours

I think most jobs are not easy for the first time. You have to know the way they are being done first. Over time , you will already memorize the process and it will already be as easy as ABC .

Where did you try it at home? Sometimes it's difficult sometimes it's easy depending on the speaker

My mother worked as a medical transcriptionist for many years. Some of the doctors at the practice where she worked would request her to transcribe their notes because she did the best job. She retired about 15 years ago but when I visit my doctor at that practice he always asks how she is.

That's nice to know. It's actually fun to transcribe medical records but you need to sit for too long. Great she enjoyed her job for many years

Do they require medical background or experience to be a medical transcriptionist?

It's also hard on the hands too, isn't it? My aunt did it for years, and had to wear wrist braces because of carpal tunnel.
