I love old, abandoned, and vacant houses, towns, and buildings.

I've been busy lately keeping my mind moving. I recently came upon the story of a street in a Pennsylvania town that was just completely abandoned, and I found it fascinating, and as I read stories from people who claimed to live there at one time, I couldn't help but find it odd that none of their stories really matched, they all gave different stories, and someone online bothered to do real research and pretty much proved half of their stories wrong. One claimed that the car left behind was hers, but if that's the case why would you just up and leave it? I could see some people dying off or maybe leaving some of their things behind, but there are several houses there all filled with things, and it honestly looked like they just up and left in a hurry leaving things exactly as they were. It's odd to me. I mean why so many conflicting stories from all of these people who claimed to have lived there? There might be some truth to their stories, but it's odd that there are so many stories. I surely don't believe it's anything supernatural, but there has to be more than what's being said. This town is only about a half an hour from where my boyfriend's family lives, so I am considering maybe looking into it more, I would never enter any of the houses as that's extremely dangerous, but I'd love to get a few photos of it, and maybe try to put together what really happened. There's just a lot of holes in the story, even from those claiming to live there. I was trying to piece it together in my head. I have always been fascinated by abandoned homes and towns, and by older homes and buildings in general. There's always a story behind them, and those that lived there. I love hearing about old towns when they were big and booming. I grew up in a small town that at one time I hear was a booming town as train tracks go through it, but as the economy started to go down hill, and as we started finding new ways to deliver things, the town started taking a hit, stores closed and people moved. When I was a kid the population of my town was probably 300, now it's down to under 200. Our house seemed abandoned, but it wasn't. We did take a lot, and left what we didn't want behind. The house itself started had a lot of issues and the things we didn't take were ruined or not worth taking, but we didn't just up and leave everything. The roof leaked and there was black mold, the house just wasn't worth anything. The house was burned down and the land was auctioned off. It's sad seeing my old town run down, but I know a lot of the story behind it, but the thing is I do know a lot about it, but I still don't know everything, and have yet to find information on it, because it's so small, and not a lot of information exists that I've been able to find anyway. I'd love to hear more stories about my town. I have a fascination and learning about those that came before me, and even after me. Every town, every street, every house has a story, whether long or short it has one, and I love learning about them. I think my little town is probably where the fascination started, as it's an older town, and I know so much came before me. I recently came across my old elementary school in a youtube video where the guy explored it trying to figure out what rooms were what, meanwhile I'm yelling at him trying to tell him the what and why from the screen lol, his comments were disabled so I wasn't able to fill him in. The building wasn't abandoned, but it is very run down now, and it's vacant. The guy who originally bought it wanted to turn it into a drug rehab center but could never get the permission, these guys got permission and the keys for the owner. It was sad seeing my elementary school in such disrepair. I went there from kindergarten to sixth grade, and my mom went there before me. It's got a lot of rich history. The school was rebuilt in the 50s after the first one burnt down, I believe the original building was built in the 20s, and they rebuilt the school on the same land just behind where the original stood. Since it was built in the 50s it actually had a bunker. It has so much history, and I loved that school. It was a little school with a big heart as we often claimed. I remember when it closed in 2011, I was heart broken, I wanted to go there for the little ceremony they had for the closing, but wasn't able to, I wanted to go and sign a brick in the gym, but wasn't able to. If anyone is interested in the video let me know and I'll send you a link, I'm aware not everyone is as interested in this type of thing as I am. For me it's not just the mystery behind why things are closed down and abandoned but they idea of how much history is there (BTW I know why my school was closed down, they guy actually asks that in the video, it wasn't for any extremely compelling reason, money reasons, I'll get more in depth if anyone is actually curious). I love learning about those types of things. I also love how things were build back in the day, and how the architecture is so much different from how things are slapped together now. I could talk about the subject all day. I once talked about Centralia PA as well, which is another town that fascinates me, I know why people left, but the whole idea of it is interesting to me. Anyone here also fascinated by old/vacant/ or abandoned places?

Tried for ages to find an old site I used to look at a lot. Couldn't find it but this one is not bad.

Thanks, those are amazing. I watch this guy who checks out abandoned houses and things near me. One being an old amusement type park I remember going to as a kid. My mom had her work party there, and for some reason it was shut down. I do find it slightly more amazing when a big area is completely abandoned. I always want to figure out why. Lincoln Way as street in a Pennsylvania town, isn't too far from where my boyfriend's parents live, so I'm thinking one of the times when we visit I might check it out, at least the outside of it. I'd love to try and figure it out. I don't believe half of what the towns people are saying, including those who claim to have lived in those houses, because none of their stories really match up with the facts. It's just interesting to me.

@Mike197602 Haha, maybe. I could, but honestly having my sister as a police officer I try to avoid actual illegal activity lol. I just stick to watching the videos and trying to find things that I can look at without breaking the law, I can check out the houses in PA legally as long as I don't go in them, which I wouldn't anyway as they're all collapsing on the inside.

@sissy15 Find a decent group. They'll know all about the legalities in your area and you'd be surprised at the level of expertise with regards to structural integrity....if you hit on the right crew. Some of the group are lawyers and some engineers...the rest just urbexers....It's a good thing to be interested in as you've access to a worldwide interest and some nice people If you wanted to go further you'd need to do local research.

That abandoned town sounds like a good script for a movie.

Centralia the abandoned town in PA was used in a movie, but not as the plot. They could make a lot of interesting movies out of the stories of abandoned places. Everything has a story, and it'd be great to get to the bottom of some of them.
