An Update on the Principal & Assistant Principal who insulted students

I wrote a few days ago about two male school administrators who texted each other messages while at a basketball game involving their school in Creswell, OR and the hosting school, Pleasant Hill, OR. Both female students they insulted had transferred away from Creswell High to PH. These two educated males, in responsible positions as educators, made fun of one young woman cheerleader's weight ("She's 5' 2" and weighs 157 pounds"). This girl suffers from Type I diabetes. One said of the other student that "She is probably snorting cocaine." A person sitting behind on of these louts took a photo of his screen and shared it, which made the front page the next morning. Yesterday, both of these rude men were put on administrative leave. Today, it was announced that both have resigned. I surmise that they were given a choice of that or termination. Maybe they can get work hauling garbage, but not as educators, I hope.

wow, what jerks! seriously, to make fun of a high school girl's weight is just the epitome of what is wrong with how girls struggle with self-image. (to make fun of anyone's weight... but school age girls are going through so much already)

I am glad they are out of the school. They should not be in education.

Woah, a photo of the phone screen was taken? That sorta changes things. As much as it was ethically wrong to opinion what was writened, I believe it's an invasion of privacy to snap a photo of someone's personal and private texts to one another, it's the same as illegally recording private conversations between people. I won't be surprised to see this go to court with the school losing, or out of court settlement. This is now very intriguing to me.

@Plethos If you don't want someone looking at your screen you need to conceal it. He was above the texter in a gym seat, saw what was said and knew it was wrong. I am all for stopping abuse of kids by educators who should know better.

Not a chance. In a public place like a gym at a high school, there is n legal expectation of pivacy. If the dummmy did not try to conceal his rude remarks, he got what he deserved. I mentioned the photo in my first discussion as well. The parents of the girls thanked the person who took the photo and exposed these jerks for what they are.

@JamesHxstatic - it is wrong what was said. But you also have to look at how the incident came to be. I for one would not like it if someone was taking a photo of my screen from over my shoulder of a private call/text. Especially if it was from my personal phone, but if it's of a school issued phone then that is a slightly more different situation.

Most likely they'll move to another state and find jobs at another school. Depending on how humiliated they are and how despondent they become, one, the other, or both, may just decide to end it all. Those are the two extremes. I'm sure they'll wind up somewhere in between.

We live in a country in which a very sizable chunk of the population thinks it's funny when a presidential candidate openly mocks a disabled reporter on live television. Something tells me these guys will work again.

The ones that get caught I reckon do not even make up 1% of those that behave in this manner.. That's extremely troubling. I cannot tell you the issues I have had with a couple of our children that I had to go to the school and raise cane about. We tend to believe educators are above this, but they aren't. We can only hope that more of the ones engaging in such despicable acts are outed and held accountable for their damaging actions!! xx

It is sad to think that schools have sunk to this level.

These two administrators behavior, targeting such comments at students publicly, even if it was via text, when it was obvious to anyone eavesdropping on their digital conversation whom they were talking about, was inappropriate, especially when they were making the hurtful comments for their mutual amusement. Had the person in the stands not been snooping to see what the administrators were texting to each other, and had they not had the audacity to photograph what was on the screen of the administrator's phone, none of this would ever have come to light and those two despicable people would still be working at the school with no one the wiser. That the comments the administrators made to one another were probably being echoed in dozens of conversations between parents at the game and perhaps even by the person who took the photo, does nothing to minimize the fact that school administrators must be infallible and never show human foibles in public. The two should have known better than to do what they were doing because society will always hold educators to a higher standard than it does the parents of the children whom the educators teach.

@DWDavis Thanks for commenting here. I was interested in your opinion since you are a teacher and sound like you are good one. In the positions they held, there was no way they should have been saying things they did. I am not sure I would call the parent sitting behind them a snooper or someone who saw it because of the way it was held and decided to blow the whistle. It was good thing to do.

Sadly, they'll probably just move to another state or another school district and get jobs working in schools again. Too many times nobody bothers to check references or conduct background checks.

Sounds really unprofessional. Educators should be oriented toward helping each student achieve full potential. Period.
