It was with great sadness that I read one of my beloved actresses had died. Mary Tyler Moore was wonderful actress who was born in my hometown New York City in the borough of Brooklyn. There had been great sadness in her life when her only son Ritchie lost his life accidentally while playing around with a gun at the age of 24. Now at long last he will be reunited with his mom. The actress died on Wednesday at a hospital in Connecticut at the age of 80. Mary Tyler Moore became popular when she portrayed Laura Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960s. It was such a fun show and at times I still watch some episodes on YouTube. She became adored by many more fans when in the 1970s she got her own show The Mary Tyler Moore Show in which she introduced TV audiences to many wonderful and talented actors and actresses like Valerie Harper, Betty White, Lou Grant and Ted Knight. Many of them also went on to star in their own shows. In recent years she appeared on the TV show “Hot In Cleveland” with her former Mary Tyler Moore Show co-stars Valerie Harper and Betty White. The actress was also a passionate advocate for animal rights and founded Broadway Barks 15, an annual homeless cat and dog adoption event in New York City. She didn’t have an easy life because while she was at the top of her career she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 33. In recent years as the disease progressed she suffered near blindness. Knowing the suffering that this disease brought she became the international chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The actress published a memoir which takes a look at living with this disease “Growing Up Again: Life, Loves and Oh Yeah. Diabetes” in 2009. Mary Tyler Moore will be greatly missed by all of her fans but she leaves behind a wealth of programs and movies in which she remains immortal. She is survived by her loving husband Dr. Robert Levine. I’ve included the opening theme song of her show. R.I.P Mary. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mary-tyler-moore-dead-dies_us_5668663ae4b0f290e52179bd
