Another story drawn from the creative writing group exercises I set for the Just Write group in Preston yesterday when I asked the writers to imagine they had been hypnotised. This was my own stab at the exercise. Click Click Click Alright, quit pushing man, I’m going. I appreciate the situation. I was making chicken noises, and running round the cinema trying to lay an egg during the movie. I’d throw me out too, but at least let me explain myself so you don’t think I’m just any old nut. Thank you. Last night I went to stag do for my friend, Bazza, who is getting married next weekend, and as part of the celebrations we went to a club where a hypnotist came on. I got dragged up to take part in one of the stunts, and though I thought hypnotism was nonsense, I was soon right under the influence. Yes, you guessed it, being a chicken was one of the things I had to do. What was weird was that to mesmerize me, Dr Mystio as he called himself, didn’t wave watch in my face or use any weird lights, he just clicked his fingers, and that was it, I was a chicken, and it was only when he clicked his fingers again that I stopped. He told me the effects were over, but something went wrong. I still turn chicken when I hear fingers click. I guess it will wear off eventually, and I thought I’d stay out of trouble just watching a movie here. I didn’t know there was so much finger clicking in West Side Story. Oh no, did you just tut in disgust and disbelief? Tutting was Mystio’s command to make me take all my clothes off. I’m sorry, I can’t stop myself. No, I don’t know what he did to stop me.
