She's Always Hungry

My adopted cat seems to be always hungry. Noticed it after she had undergone that spaying operation. She always beg for food though I had already given her the tuna-flavored pellet cat food. A neighbor said it is just normal for cats who had been spayed/neutered. So my cat got fat too soon after that operation. Do you also have pets that were spayed or neutered?

I haven't done that to my dog, because I want him to have puppies.

Why do you want your dog to have puppies @Letranknight2015 ?

Yes, if you wanted puppies, you should not spay/neuter your dog.

Both of my cats are neutered and one is always hungry and the other one never looks to eat.

I see, there could be different responses to it.

None that I can think of. Any idea when this phase will end?

@acelawrites perhaps, you can consult your vet so you can stop the over-eating.

We don't have cats at homes. Though, I like seeing very cute cats at Facebook. I also like seeing fat cats. They look so cuddly. Though, I don't like cuddling them because some are hostile.

Before, I also do not like cats, but when I adopted one, it changed my attitude towards cats; they are so sweet and so intelligent. So easy to teach.

None. We don't have vet clinics here in my town so I really don't know where to have them neutered or spayed.

@acelawrites Wow! That's great. Hmmm I don't even know if they give antirabies to pets here. Awww! Our pets are not vaccinated.

The vet office at the city hall did the spaying, so it was free.

I am clueless on what that is. I have a pet but i think they never underwent any of those. Just exactly what is that though? Sorry, ignorant on these.

Spaying is when a cat or dog undergoes an operation where veterinarians remove or block the reproductive organs so they will not reproduce anymore.

@acelawrites oh i see, much like ligation or vasectomy for humans. Thanks for giving light to me on these. How is your pet now, still always begging for food?

all my cats are fixed. yea, they do tend to be lil piggies if you don't watch them.i guess it's because they don't have the other urge anymore.

She loves to eat always. So I have to ration her food, only in the morning and afternoon and just enough amount.

I once had a neutered cat and yes, it did eat a lot and still hungry. It grew to be a huge and heavy cat. So I guess it's normal for your cat too.

Yes, a neighbor told me that its appetite will go big also once spayed; so true.

Good for her. Maybe it differs from one animal to another.

All pets here are spayed or neutered. There is no need to add to the population of unwanted pets in this world. But, the pets did not get fatter. Maybe that cat would just have gotten larger regardless? Like humans, some just have larger appetites?

14 of them @acelawrites . And yes, they will want to eat more because the spaying/neutering process changes their hormones and metabolism. Especially if it's done too early. It's still better to put the food bowl down only twice per day, even though cats are 'nibblers'; meaning they will usually only eat a few crunchies at a time.

Both cats got fat. Doodles has a belly that jiggles from side to side when he trots. So funny!

I only have a sheep. He has been sterilised and loves his food so he is following the pattern of your cat. :)

Maybe because their physiological state was changed, so they turned to eating!
