That's a paraphrase of the opening line of the Beatles' "Paperback Writer." I need readers. Why? Because, to quote another Beatles song, I declared the pennies on my eyes.
Oh, that wacky taxman.
That's two years in a row I've owed now, and this year it was almost triple what I had to pay last year.
And, lest you think it's Uncle Sam sticking it to the rich, my income qualifies me for free tax preparation. Hey, maybe one of those scammers will call me and I can con them into paying my taxes for me!
On a serious note, remember, folks, to watch very carefully for IRS scams. If you do your taxes online, I recommend using the same site you've always used; or, if this is your first time, go to the IRS's web site (their extension is .gov, NOT .com or .net, so don't be fooled!!!!) and use the links they provide. The IRS never calls you and never e-mails you.
And, remember, they also never ask you for personal information because they already have it!
Good luck to all you fine fellow U.S. citizens paying your taxes this year.
Here's Sir Paul doing "Paperback Writer" (I'm posting that because you'll hear "Taxman" enough this time of year....and anyway, I didn't title the discussion after a line out of "Taxman," did I?

Oh, yeah, that'll hurt for a while. But I prefer paying them to having more money withheld, which they get to earn interest on for a year.

I'm sorry. I'm having a bad time causing earworms lately. Last week it was a co-worker I got stuck on "La Bamba" after mentioning Marshall Crenshaw was in the movie.

I've been with Turbo Tax for a long time, too. It's always best to use a "big name," for a lot of reasons...including minimizing the risk of it being a scam.
