"My body... My rules."

January 30, 2017 10:20pm CST
Today a very uncomfortable situation happened in the office (more precisely at lunch time). One of my co-workers was "harassed" because of the clothes she was wearing. She was passing with the lunch tray when one of the cleaning staff whistled at her. She didn't like it and came back to take satisfaction. He in turn replied saying that her clothes asked for it (WTF?! ). At that very moment she screamed "My body... My rules". Before the situation got worse, both were taken by their superiors to talk. I still don't know the rest of what happened. Well, in my opinion, the company has rules and she couldn't have gone beyond what was allowed. She has every right to wear whatever clothes she wants (she's free for that), but there are the right places for that. At the same time that the cleaning staff should have controlled himself. He was very rude and unfortunately he only grossly reinforced all the chauvinism that still strongly exists.

that person who whistled should be fired. That is very rude and would not be allowed in our workplaces.

@hitesh1531 don't agree with you - it is not allowed to harasses women or men for what they are wearing. Its rude, crude and lewd.

This is sick. I feel the mentality should change! I wonder how the cleaning staff dared like this, here in my workplace, not even colleagues or seniors for that matter can do anything like that. There would be strict disciplinary actions against them.

Cleaning staff doing that is never heard of. Wonder what the supervisor decided. Hope he took the cleaning staff to task.

People should always dress respectfully. Too many men and women dress like they are going to the beach or a park when headed for work. However, no one has a 'right' to whistle at a man or a woman. We all know what this insinuates, and adults should start acting like adults.

Some guys still seem to be stuck in the 1970s.

I do think that some women don't help our cause with the way they dress. I'm not saying that is the case here - just sayin'....

I'm surprised that he did that if she abides by the dress code (pretty sure not many companies allow employees to wear clothes that are revealing).

She should dress appropriately for work, and he should keep his mouth shut!

She should observe proper office attire.. The man's behavior is unprofessional. He should not behave that way..

It's just the cause and effect, she wears that... she gets the prize, whether she likes it or not. If everybody will have the right to say 'm body my rules', what will happen to our world.

If there is an office dress code, I would observe it. In any event I wouldn't be comfortable wearing revealing clothes to the office.

So sad to hear he said her clothes ask for it... Clearly she didn't ask for that kind of attention
