James Charles: Covergirl's first male covergirl.

Here's another video to ponder.  Check out the link below.  First off I know this may well be a topic near and dear to a lot of people's hearts - so- I mean no offense to anyone's viewpoint here. The video is an interview with James Charles a make up artist who is the first ever male covergirl for Covergirl cosmetics.  What is your opinion of men in make up or Mr. Charles? Here's my take on it.  I am all for there being products for men who take care of their appearance, men who are well groomed, take care of their skin, etc....  I can even get into the "goth" or "emo" look, men in eyeliner, men in nail polish.  When a person is allowing their outward appearance to be what they are feeling - that is confidence and therefor attractive.  That said, I don't understand James Charles's look.  I don't mean that in a bad way, I simply don't understand it.  Young James dresses masculine, and has close cropped hair in a masculine style.  He doesn't appear to be trying to pass as a female, or what is the phrase? He doesn't appear to be a drag queen. However in spite of his masculine hair cut and clothing, James wears ultra feminine make up.  He is very skilled at make up application. I'm not sure I get the look.  As I say - I've seen men who take care of their skin, appearance etc,  I've seen men who wear the emo or goth look with eyeliner,  I have even seen men trying to pass as women.... however this is a new one on me - men who are masculine except for their make up. Does anyone know more about this trend? Is this going to be a thing now? Construction worker men wearing eyeshadows and mascara? Is Covergirl just trying to double their market?  And why couldn't that call him Coverboy or something?  I don't get it - but as long as it makes the individual happy....

True, I think because the lighting and so on can make anyone look washed out

I agree its different but he surprisingly doesn't look bad in makeup even though hes masculine looking hes not so masculine to where he looks horrible and like an obvious man in makeup with his face you almost have to look twice to make sure its not a chick with short hair.

He certainly looks happy with Ellen. i would probably bet he will in his adult life be a woman or at least on stage. I too don'care one way or the other. To each their own...and yes, i don't get it but he certainly knows how to use that makeup!

He's very skilled, and maybe you're right, maybe he will transition to female at some point

I think all TV presenters are usually made up before getting on with the show. But I am certain the men would not be wearing mascara or eyeshadow.

I don't get it either and I'll probably never get it. And hasn't everyone gone in for big heavy eyebrows now? But to each his own.

I always say to each his own. Lots of guys wore makeup in the 80's thanks to Duran Duran. Or was that just me?
