I can think of no more a fitting time as this. So let's discuss the Declaration of Independence (From Britain), and perhaps learn a few things we didn't know about the Declaration. I won't lie and say I was ever truly interested in learning about the Declaration of Independence in school. It was something that bored me to no end, that and the Constitution was so heavily studied that I nearly fell asleep each time we had to study it. I did, however, fancy the School House rock song. That never bored me, watching that in school. That's neither here nor there, though. Just came across this little post from History Extra and was not aware of a lot of these. Like the fact that it actually wasn't signed on July 4th 1776, but a full month later. Or that Jeffereson had a long spiel (condemning) slavery. That was left out to appease Georgia and South Carolina. It wasn't even signed by all of congress. One person thought it was "premature" while another was still hoping for reconciliation with Britain.
