Hi! Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Candles or Candelaria in my country. I went to the church to hear mass and to have our altar candles blessed. According to the history, the statue of Our Lady of Candles was found by a group of fishermen afloat in the Iloilo river . Now, the image's shrine is displayed in a cathedral in Iloilo. It is not the image itself that we, Catholics, honor. It is Our Lady Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.The statue is just an image. To my fellow Catholic mylotters , do you observe the Feast of Our Lady of Candles? How about those Catholic from other countries, what Feast day or Feast of Saints is hugely observe?

I am Catholic and we celebrate Candlemas today, the Feast of the Purification that happens 40 days after the birth of Jesus.

I hear of Our Lady of candles for the first time. Catholics here in India keep many feasts in honor of of Our Lady, mother of Jesus.Though Mother Mary is honored throughout the year the months of May and October are specially dedicated to Mother Mary.

I celebrate Candlemas the French way : I prepared crepes today. We have a tradition telling that if we manage to flip the first crepe with a gold coin on the other hand, we will have money all the year. I would not miss that.

How pretty, the Catholic religious surprises me more and more with what it does. I am not religious, but I do think it is very beautiful.
