Cats and Dogs

Here’s a very disturbing fact and one more reason why many persons have their cats and dogs neutered. This is quite unbelievable when you think about it. According to the Humane Society, one cat or dog is euthanized (killed) every eight seconds in a U.S. animal shelter. Another animal shelter bit of information from the Humane Society was that shelters across the U.S. ban the adoption of black cats in the weeks before Halloween, because they don’t want them used for ritual sacrifices. Who knew?

I've heard about the Halloween bit before. It's unbelievable in this day and age.

It's even more involved than most people realize. When I lived in North Carolina I discovered through one of my jewelry customers that there is a very large "society" of "modern witches" who consider Halloween their "special" holiday and practice all sorts of rituals. I wanted no part of that so I stayed away from her and her friends.

@IreneVincent There are strange ideas around - and some strange people. Anything that involves harming animals can't be good.

So right who knew. Here in Latvia people volunteer their homes for rescued homeless cats and dogs. There are also shelters and the animals that are rescued are first of all checked by a vet and then fixed. After that they are photographed and put on the Internet with their location and then wait for new parents. We found our Sid online and then adopted. I have no idea how many are euthanized and how often though.

Thank you for sharing that information with us. I can see why they would make sure black cats are not wandering around Halloween.
