One might want to think badly of her because of her way to fame. While it wasn't the most honest of ways, I can't say I blame her. Her life, nor any dancer of that time, was anything but glamorous. This article is long, and I'd be lying if I said I read the whole thing. I feel for those girls who danced back then. Who was not only put through the paces (and pain) of dancing, but also sold out by their own mothers.

Thank you a lot for this link. I have collected data about the Paris Opéra and Opéra-Comique in the 1830/1840 during years, and I completely missed the career of Duvernay in England. Opera singers and dancers are not always easy to follow, and I am realizing that I am lacking of data about UK.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I mainly worked on newspapers of the time, but I do not know any online collection of newspapers freely available for this period in UK.

@topffer I've never come across a database that offered any historical paper for free. Well, except for those machines you can use in the library. I've not used one since I was a child though. Even then, it was more for fun than anything else. This is 13 GBP a month, but have you seen this one?
Whether you are a researcher, historian or you simply want to know more about Britain's history, take this fantastic opportunity to search The British Newspaper Archive - a vast treasure trove of historical newspapers from your own home.

Glad I could be of service. I'm sure other sources have much more details on her career. Historyextra doesn't always provide adequate details in my opinion.

Definitely not, in my opinion. Then again, those who love dancing might think otherwise.
