My husband and I lived in Denver, Colorado for two and a half years. My daughter was born there. We took her back to visit the hospital where she was born when she was fifteen years old. We also showed her many of the sites in Colorado that she wouldn’t have remembered as a baby. My husband and I often thought about moving back to Denver, but never did. It’s interesting to read some of the history of that city. It was 1858, when some gold prospectors set up some tents and shacks near Cherry Creek, Colorado. Those prospectors would be surprised to see Denver today. In the 1860s and 1870s thousands of people moved to that area to mine for gold and silver, creating a “boomtown.” Many stayed and built huge mansions with the money they had made from mining the gold. Usually, “boomtowns” disappear after a few years but not Denver. In fact, by the 1890s, the population had grown to over 100,000. Then in the year 1927, the Moffat Tunnel was cut through the mountains, which put Denver on the direct transcontinental route and Denver became the cultural and business center in the Rocky Mountain region. Most everyone knows that Denver is called “the Mile High City” since the capital building steps are 5280 feet above sea level. The Rocky Mountains are breathtaking and tourists come from many different places to enjoy the views. In the summer, many campers come to the area and it’s where I learned to snow ski. The ski resorts are wonderful. One extra little tidbit is that the capitol dome in Denver is covered with 200 ounces of gold leaf that was mined there in Colorado.

My nephew and his family live in Fort Collins. I spent a week with them. My nephew took me to the mountains and we had a nice memorable day there.

Now, that's a story that would be interesting to write about. Have you ever thought about writing a novel?

Colorado is beautiful, but I understand that Denver has a really bad pollution problem.
