This topic will become big news because of the confirmation of Betsy DeVos the new U.S. Secretary of Education and the Vice President broke the tie for the first time in history. If you don't know now she is pro school vouchers, so you know this will come up for each state to decide whether they are going to allow parents to have their students attend any school and use taxpayer dollars to pay private school tuition. The pro is easy to see parents would not need to move to the best school areas and would use taxpayer dollars to pay the bill, if the school accepts the student, as private schools don't accept every student. My daughters attended private schools and we would have been able to save a lot of money, if this passed in this state. Now the biggest cons to this are the huge number of students that aren't accepted to private schools. The highest incomes in California would all stop paying tuition, smartest children and children that excel in sports. My daughters graduated in the top 5% of the state. Personally, I am against vouchers, as a former teacher, the struggling students would fall behind further and we would see many students unable to read and write. I would rather see vouchers go to struggling schools and students that need more help. This state would lose Title 1 Money for most at risk students. My understanding is each state would decide and this state has voted vouchers down in the past, so hopefully they would again. Tell me why should a person vote for it? I would like to know, if there is something that people don't mention about the vouchers for schools. I don't know how soon each state will be addressing this issue, as right now its being discussed here.
