MyLot's algorithm

just out of curiosity, any idea how MyLot determines which posts are "Interesting" or "Top Rated" or "Hot"? I'm guessing it has something to do with measuring the amount of response but I wonder how the site differentiates between the categories

Yes, you guessed right. Top Rated - Most likes. Interesting - Relevant to you because of tags (so each individual has a different "interesting" section). Hot - Most responses and comments. I think comments count as well, but I'm not too sure.

@JolietJake I missed because I didn't know! Hot discussions can last for years, creepy.

@sabtraversa if a discussion is brought back up, by maybe a few responses/comments, after even 10 years it can go to the top of the hot list if it picks up a lot of new responses. I've seen that happen a few times.

JJ is right The main confusion is around interesting discussions as a lot of people don't get the relevance of tags.

@JolietJake same here. I know exactly what tags I use in my rare discussions but some of the discussions coming up in the interesting section were a bit of a mystery to me.

I think by now you would have got answer to your query. I may add Herr that you may find some discussions which are common in 'top' and 'hot' categories.

There are no answers found anywhere but there is a pattern followed that could be understood by a few veterans here particularly @JolietJake

Good question. I guess how many people respond to the topic of the discussion.
