Do you usually buy second hand things?

In the vast majority of the time, I don't like to buy anything second hand. But I've already made some exceptions for some items that I really wanted but that were too expensive or that I couldn't find so easily (and those purchases were made through people I really know).

The only thing I won't buy second hand is underwear, socks, and bedding. Most of the items in my house are from thrift stores. I can't afford to spend $40 on a new lamp but I can afford the $5 lamp at the thrift store. My granddaughter's clothes are all used, the only time she gets new things is as gifts. It's just kind of stupid to buy new clothes as she's only 3 and grows like a weed. We do by her shoes new, though.

I love to shop at thrift stores, but I never buy anything upholstered or stuffed animals or anything that can't be washed and put in a very hot dryer.

I think it depends... books, yes I do but for clothes... I am picky unless it's a friend or something. For appliances or other household equipment, I do too as long as I know how they were using it prior... because who wants to buy something that is broken right?
This is because there are some people who would opt to sell their things but conceal the real reason: that it's slightly broken or something.

Usually I don“t. But sometimes I get second hand things I need at a good price and in good conditions.

We have never bought second hand things for the simple reason we do not know how happy were those who used those items. Somehow feel that we would be bringing in misery if those who used those items were miserable (lol)

I don't buy second hand things too except our first car (which was even a third hand). We used iit for 7 years after which we sold it and bought a brand new one which we also used for 18 years. I sold it last month and it would have been 19 years with us next month. It's still in good running condition though and looks neat and tidy the buyer was happy with his find.

It all depends on the thrift store, some are actually very cheap, while some have way too high of a markup, when you can just go down the street buy the same item brand new at Walmart for just a dollar more. I used to work in thrift stores years ago, when it all boils down to it, they all new and used stores carry the same thing. As for donations? I take mine to the womens shelter, because most of these women can't even afford a thrift store. And I know my items will get used.

When I worked in the Thrift Shop I bought both new and 2nd hand things. I found things I could not find anywhere else.
