Henna Hair!

My Hair!

My photography skills are non-existent, but then I wasn't going after a candid shot. That is my hair, though the light still doesn't show the true color. It's multi-colors of red, but mostly burgundy. It took me three different separate tries at it (over several months) to finally find the process that works best for me. Red Wine from Henna Color Lab is what I used. Let me tell you, not every henna product is the same. This isn't pure henna, and there was no instruction to "cure" it as many other henna's require. I still "cured" (let it sit before applying) mine for 30 minutes. I also let it sit in my hair for a half an hour more than was suggested. It's not chemical based and so it doesn't hurt if you leave it longer. Meh, I'll leave it at that. If you want to know my full process just ask. *I should probably mention that it won't show up as well in darker hair. As it's natural, and not a chemical dye, it's not going to completely change the structure of your hair.

This is so close to a color I used to dye my hair, using chemicals.

@Happy2BeMe I thought so to. Of course that was from the first day, it will change over a forty eight hour period. It's already gotten darker, but still a beautiful red. The dye I used to use was called Hot Tamale, can not remember the brand name.

Looks nice! How long does your hair stay that color before it fades?

Well, truthfully this is the first application that I've actually completely been happy with. It shouldn't fade at all, but I will need to reapply it as my hair grows.

@infatuatedbby I had to post a disclaimer. My hair is a darker brown, but towards the bottom it's red from when I used to chemically dye it. So technically my hair has a sort of ombre appearance to it. What i mean is, darker hair people won't have the red show up as well as those with lighter hair. Blondes will come out more a strawberry blonde, and up the spectrum. Henna technically darkens my roots.

I wonder if that will work for coloring gray.. I'm tired of the chemicals I have to use every few months

You should do research on it. I believe it can but that there are conflicting opinions on it. I think one person on a forum I read? Said it just gave the grays a reddish tint, but that it worked.

I like to play my hair time by time, but I would never apply a permanent color, when I am tired I want to go back to my natural color.

I can completely understand that. I love red though, and always have, so I am safe with using henna.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My hair are dark brown with some lighter strands, I do not want to add reddish color.

Looking at that made me think of when you pass by the hair dye section and they have the little strands of hair to show you each color.

I should probably try henna on my hair rather than the shop bought stuff. I remember using it as a teenager. But does it cover grey!?

I think it's a trickier process, but that it can be done. I've done bits of research on henna today, and it seems everyone has their own opinion on it.

i do notice several colors in it. how do you make the color last? how do you avoid dry hair?

Henna, if applied right, is supposed to last forever. You will have to reapply to roots, but it doesn't fade. Of course, I'm still learning myself all about it. I don't think henna really dries your hair out. This time, though, I rinsed my hair with apple cider vinegar thoroughly. Then I put almond oil in my hair, massaging it through like I was about to style it. It's made my hair shiny.
