I feel pretty savvy about internet scams but apparently someone has infiltrated my laptop and my email and I don't know what else. I even had a fraudulent charge on my credit card (first time ever). I'm busy changing passwords lately now that I have everything straightened out. Thanks for the heads up!

@infatuatedbby Those who get paid through Amazon cards would open it b/c do use the cards. It is creepy how this situation can prey on those ones.

Because so many of us use Amazon, it was not surprising to see a message from the site @infatuatedbby

I don't shop online anymore. Though, when I shop online, I pay cash on delivery not through credit card. I don't want exposing my credit card online.

@SIMPLYD Some of us feel like going backward a bit and doing certain things the way we did a few years ago. Not sure that will help.

It seems like a good idea not to give personal information online.

Hopefully more people are aware of these scams than in former decades, I recall someone scamming mom via the phone back in the 1990s. So many crooks out there lookin for easy money, karma will kick em in the butt when they least expect it.

I think it's mostly the elderly that are taken by these scams @PatZAnthony so many are lonely and just want to talk to someone so they end up buying something just because some fool took time to talk. Many elderly are lonely because their kids work and don't have time to talk to them while they're at work.

Lol Good one. I get the phone ones and we mess with them. The longer you keep them on the phone wasting their time the less time they have to scam others who don't know better. Got one a few days ago and I pissed them off and it was funny we were all laughing. Sir we are calling because we have been monitoring your credit activity and gave me the whole speech that they give and how they are here to help. He then asked me how much debt I have and what size loan I was needing? I told him I don't know how much can I get. He said something ridiculous like up to $100,000. Sir how much debt do you have? Oh I don't know. Sir how am I supposed to help you if you don't know how much debt you have? Wait a minute I thought you said you have been monitoring my credit? Yes sir that is why we called you. Well if you called me and you have been monitoring my credit you should know how much debt I have can't you look it up? Sir this is serious I am trying to help you! I did that for a few more minutes until he got so mad he hung up on me.

@PatZAnthony yes we got one last year from the "IRS" they let us know we would be arrested our kids would be taken away but we could avoid it if we made a payment. We could pay the back taxes with a gift card from iTunes or other similar ones lol

@PatZAnthony Yeah usually they have some generic yahoo or hotmail address..like a business is really going to use that..and it always says Dear Customer or some non personal form of address.

I got talked into something over the phone...$100 walmart card for just $4.95 shipping. Got the info in the mail and it was bogus bogus bogus. It was for every $100 you spent at Walmart and sent in the receipts they would send you a $10 Walmart card and you had a year to do it. Then suddenly I was signed up for a dozen other things.....I had to make a ton of phone calls to get all of it stopped.
