I recently purchased a new water purifier. It has UV+UF +TDS control +RO. What I am worried about is it waste so much water. As it store filtered water in its container, it throws double or maybe three times water out by a pipe. Have you experienced the same? How do you utilities that water?

We trap rainwater from the roof and that becomes our household water supply. In Australia we can't afford to waste water.

That's brilliant. In India also this practice has been started in some places.

@Bodyandbrain I would think that in some places in India the water from the sky would be too polluted to drink.

@JudyEv you are right, atmosphere in India is much more polluted than Australia, so the water from sky can not be used for drinking.

Can you tap the water and store the water to flush toilet or for washing? Our water filter has the same issue, so we arrange it in such a way that the excess water goes into the washing machine.

Right now I am storing that water in a steel tank, I use that water to wash vegetables, fruit, and utensils etc,but the water thrown out is much more than tanks capacity.

Such water filters, while filtering, waste double the water. It is normal thing. You should store the waste water in a separate container. If you are finding one container insufficient either you will have to buy a bigger one or an extra container. The waste water could be used in other house hold activities.

@Bodyandbrain Water is very precious, therefore we should allow it to waste to the barest minimum possible.

Yes RO s waste a lot of water. If I would have managed, I would have devised some means of storing the waste water. However, the structures within many flats and even houses in India would need a lot of adjustments for rainwater harvesting or similar kinds of water preservation plans.

I store that water in a tank and use it for washing vegetables, gardening, washing balconies etc. You are right about the need of adjustment for rain water storage and use, we need to do something seriously about it.

You are right, and I am doing that. Washing clothes would really utilities that much water but problem is that we wash in washing machine which is fully automatic and the distance between kitchen and bathroom is pretty much.
