Embracing the Mormon misfit

With today being Sunday, the sabbath for most religious denominations, being a Mormon misfit, I feel I should put my two cents in.
Yes, I am part of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, however, I fit no mold whatsoever. Mostly, I feel I'm there to just pass the time. Here are the reasons why I fit no mold, and I embrace being the misfit. Now, this is a sensitive subject for some people, so if you are easily offended, feel free to stop reading now. I have the right to be real about this.
Misfit reason one: I'm a misfit because I swear (thank you captain obvious). Honestly, I swear because sometimes, flip just does not do anything justice. Besides, it's a way of expression, now I don't swear in church, (mostly because I don't want the little kids to be repeating half of what I say, including my own kids, which I why I try to be careful as to what I say around them). It's just words, freedom of speech, grow a backbone.
Misfit reason two: I have two piercings in each ear. Now to most of the world, not a big deal, lots of people have pierced themselves shut, tatted themselves up like crazy. (I have no tats by the way, mostly because I have a very high sensitivity to needles that would cause me to pass out cold on the floor, plus again, I'm too cheap to actually pay for these things). But in the Latter Day Saint world, the physical body is compared to a temple and not to be defiled in any way, shape, or form. Hell, our prophet has actually said no more than one hole in each ear. Now, that was said almost twenty years ago, and now I'm finding that to some members it's not that big a deal anymore. I got these extra piercings when I was not active in the church at the time. Right now I have them in because like my glasses, it's part of who I am. Plus those piercings is one of the few things that are mine and mine alone, something that I don't have to share. So those piercings stay.
Misfit reason three: I like sex a LOT
This is a very taboo subject, considering that what is talked about is sex only within marriage, and only between one man and one woman. Which is fine, but so many get this part pretty messed up. So many think that sex is for nothing but procreation. Now I can see where they get that, if you look in historical teachings, for example, it was taught that oral sex was a big no no. I think that most things about sexuality back then was interpreted differently to suit personal views. Back then, god was looked at as kinda mean simple to speak. Look how many times pleasing god is mentioned! Also look how many times that not offending the spirit or Heavenly Father is mentioned. This also goes for the subject of porn as well. Now, I don't really get into the porn thing, and I'm totally against any child porn, anything abusive and even threesomes and so forth. But nudity is not porn, a good sex scene or two is not porn (as long as its actually part of the movie, show, book and not just randomly thrown in for the sake of having a sex scene) and most definately any women in bikinis and lingerie is not porn. So called immodest attire is certainly not the gateway to porn. Sexuality is part of life, deal with it!
Misfit reason four: No, I am not into the ever always changing bandwagon trends that is part of this culture. Weather it be scrapbooking where it all started, to running, to any weird attire that pops up in church, I have no use for it. Not for me. I am my own person.
Misfit reason five: no I don't have a years supply of food storage. Again, can't afford it. No room, plus who would want to eat that stuff anyway? Plus in most emergencies especially in an earthquake, that food storage is useless. Use common sense, quit being so extreme (as I stated in an earlier post)
Misfit reason six: my temple attendance is very sporadic at best. I live an hour away from the temple, plus with three littles, no one to watch them while performing ordinances, that's about 5 hours out of my day that I don't have. Plus while the temple is beautiful, and it's awesome to be there, there are other important things to be doing.
Misfit reason seven: I don't pay tithing every month. Yes, I can hear it now, but paying tithing brings blessings! No for me and my family it does not. Seems like everytime we do get on the tithing paying bandwagon, something negative happens, wether it be car breaks down, job loss, whatever. For us that tithing money could be prepaying a utility bill, food on the table, shoes that wear out, etc. Yes you could go to your bishop for help, but it's only very temporary and most help they do give it's not much help at all. Obedience does not always bring happiness, sounds kinda creepy.
Now, this all sounds pretty negative, and I don't mean to be a Debbie downer, but this has been most of my experience in this church, and I am in no means throwing my religion under the bus. But on the other side of the negatives, there's a lot of good as well. Good people that can relate, awesome service, plus I have at one time felt that spirit, I also belive in a loving, understanding heavenly father and Christ It was a long time ago, and one day later down the road I will feel it again. But for now, I am on this earth once, so I plan to live it to the fullest without much guilt over the stupid little things that don't matter anyway.
Thank you awesome mylotters for bearing through this one. I hope that one way or another I have made a small difference in a readers life.

Wow, this is some post to digest, and I came to a grinding halt at misfit reason three! haha
The only mormons I know are the Osmonds. I don't know how they fit into the 'norm' but they seemed have a good life and very family orientated. I don't really know much about LDS.
You have put a lot of effort into writing this, but I need to break it down to reply.
Great insight into a world I know little about

@librarygeek1980 3 years ago? Have you changed much then or still very much the same?
Yeah, it's a great post for me to get my teeth into. I am glad you came along as I was about to go back into hibernation. Now I might stay active a while longer.
Lucky you!

@Orson_Kart lol, lucky me! Actually I'm still the same person as I was 3 years ago, maybe a little more devilish, lol. Seriously though you're welcome, feel free to ask more if you are so inclined. And welcome back!

Thanks for commenting, I knew I'd get a reaction out of you, lol

The Osmonds are good people, pretty much like everyone else. I actually wrote this 3 years ago on Wattpad.com ( which will be taken down soon due to low readership) take all the time you need to break down and reply

An interesting read. You are just living and surviving and doing it well, Amen Sister.
Nice to know you here and yes, freedom of speech #1.

And that's ok too... everyone is entitled to thier own beliefs, experiences, etc. The key is less judging, more loving. Thanks for commenting!

i know there are mormons in my country, but have never met one.
what you said about trends (like scrapbooking, running and weird attire), do you mean you're all supposed/expected to follow them?
wouldn't a year's supply of food mean you'd need a big storage space at home for it and ensure it's calamity-proof (ex. flood, fire, earthquake)?
do members notice and ask you why you haven't been attending church service?

Good questions, thanks for commenting. When I say trends, I mean atmosphere, culture. No we are not expected to follow them, but when you dont, it does make you feel a bit left out, kinda like with cliques, popularity in high school sort of thing.
As for the years supply of food storage, I will admit, the church has not put as much emphasis on this as in years past. Just the suggestion to have something set aside for whatever emergency that may arise. Reason for that is due to the rising cost of food, people move around much more, decline in population, etc.
As far as church attendance, I still attend church services, just not the Temple at the moment, which is, probably the easiest way to explain it, a higher extension of our church. Beautiful places to visit though, especially just on the outside grounds.
Again, thanks for commenting, I hope I clarified sone of your questions.
