This morning one lady smashed my side window in one of the very narrow streets in my area. She stopped and got out to check her window while I was approaching her. After she made sure that everything is okay with her mirror, she just got in, slammed the car door, ignored my waving for her to stop and just took off.
I quickly got into my car, and after 5 minutes of trying to get close enough to take a picture of her plate, we stopped together on a traffic light. I then took 3 pictures and beeped at her to stop, pointing to my phone.
She failed to stop and took off as soon as the lights where green. Then I went to the police and told them what happened. They called her and she arrived at the station after about 20 minutes.
She said that she didn't notice hitting anyone's mirror and she denied that she stopped for checking her car (she said that she stopped to get something from the trunk, although she never opened the trunk) and claimed that since her mirror is not damaged, then it is very unlikely that she hit me.
After signing all the papers I headed to my insurance and still waiting their response.
That mirror system costs about 400 euros by the way.
Did you ever witness a hit and run situation?

I am sorry to hear that! Do you have any surveillance cameras ? Or anyone in the neighborhood? That is very wrong, for her to lie. Did you get any video footage?

@Madshadi
Yeah same with me when I was rear ended
I didn't do what I should because I was panicking a little as it was my first time being in a car accident by myself but the lady said she was at fault obviously !!
Glad everything is okay with your insurance. can't believe she lied to the police that is a crime actually!

@infatuatedbby She lied because otherwise she would've suffered a big penalty for failing to stop.
Thank you! It was a relief indeed when I got the call from the insurance telling me that everything is okay.

Unfortunately no. And these things happen too fast so you don't remember to record a video. A video of her stopping to check her mirror would be enough evidence that she lied.
On a brighter note my insurance called this morning and assured that the paper she signed at the station confirms that she is guilty.

I am sorry this happened to you. It's good that you managed to take the pictures and the police was able to get her too. Hope your mirror will be fixed very soon. Glad that she will need to pay for it, as 400 euros is quite pricey.
I have not witness any hit and run situation.

I hope the cops looked at her car and your car and the scratches would be there to see. Good luck with the insurance.

@Madshadi Interesting, I guess that is why we pay for insurance..
