Frustrating visit to the bank!

Our tax refunds came in today. We're using the refunds for our trip in April to DC and Myrtle Beach.
The refunds went into our joint account at the bank, but we decided I should withdraw the money and put it into my account at my credit union, as it would be too easy to spend if left in our joint account.
The bank isn't too far from the credit union where I work, so I went down there on lunch today.
I pulled into the drive thru because it was such a gorgeous day I didn't feel like being indoors on my lunch break.
I send in my debit card and driver's license and ask for "twelve hundred, fifty dollars".. those are the exact words I said.
She sends me out a withdraw slip, which I fill out, then I sit and wait.. and wait.. and wait..
My lunch 1/2 hour ended, and still I was waiting.
I couldn't drive off as my debit card and driver's license were in the tube, inside the bank.
I hoped that any second now my money would come flying down the tube so I could get back to work!
Yet still I waited.
Finally she calls over the intercom that there was a limit at the drive thru and I would have to go inside to withdraw that much cash!
At this point I should have returned to work 5 minutes ago, and had been sitting at the drive thru window for at least 20 minutes.. probably closer to 25 minutes..
And as I had already told her the amount I wanted to withdraw, why hadn't she told me in the first place that I couldn't do that through the drive thru?
So I got back to work 10 minutes late, and texted my husband that he'd have to stop and take the money out, which he did as he works near a branch as well.
This is why people are avoiding dealing directly with tellers and going more digital with ATM's, online banking, etc!

We don't have drive-thrus for banking. And for amounts less than MYR5000, customers are encouraged to do the withdrawal at the ATM. Having said that, I feel that the girl that took your debit card and driver's license should have told you about the limit. She wasted the time you could have lunch.

Yes she completely wasted my time. She claimed to have misheard me, but I clearly stated my amount.
If it were less I would have used the ATM, but our ATM limits are $300-$500.

@katsmeow1213 Then the Bank should give their staff hearing aids so such misunderstanding doesn't repeat. You should have made a fuss about the time you wasted at the Bank. They might just treat you to a free lunch.

Love those banking limits! Strange the way some things work, isn't it?

We don't have such limits where I work. I don't really understand why they'd have the limits. I provided my driver's license and debit card... what's the problem?

@UmiNoor There's really no reason to have a limit at a drive thru, unless they cannot verify who you are. I've worked in the banking industry for years, at 2 different institutions and I've never come across this rule.

@katsmeow1213 I think it's because you went through the drive through and they have a limit but they should have made it clear that there's a limit and not waste your time.

I have no idea, I guess they were busy inside.. but as she had sent me a withdrawal slip she should have waited, and told me upfront that I couldn't take out so much.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine when it comes to the bank.
You put money in the bank, it is a breeze no questions ask. When you take money out - the process is forever, they need 101 things from you.
Once, I needed an amount and they said they didnt have it on hand. And for me to take some here, and another bank across the street. I said no. I put money in the bank, no matter what amount and you take it. For me to take out money, you want me to go drive around - no. They said okay, hold on and went in the back to get money. They were just being LAZY.
She should have told you when you pulled up for that amount you need to go inside. Not hold your information until LATER to tell you. Frustrating!

Well for security reasons tellers do not keep a lot of money. With a bit of notice they can have it ready for you, but they never keep a lot on hand.
They certainly shouldn't have told you to go elsewhere to get it!
We always just tell them to wait while we get it, and that in the future they should call ahead of time and we'll have it ready.

Yeah that is completely fine the teller does not have it. But the bank does have the amount on hand. I have no problem waiting, as its a bigger amount but I certainly won't go to another location to get the other amount.

@infatuatedbby No and you shouldn't have to.. unless they never want you to come back again!

I don't think it would have been any faster inside.. I tried that once awhile ago and I ended up walking out because the people ahead of me in line were taking too long with whatever they were trying to do. I just don't see why this teller would send me a slip and then go off and do something else instead of waiting for me to send in my transaction.

I've never had that happen before.. but obviously each bank has their own rules.

I'm sorry it took so long. She should have told you immediately that you couldn't take that much out in drive-through. I'm glad your husband was able to handle it after work.

If there was a place I could avoid in this whole world, this place would be the bank.
