Wonderful But Harmful

Have you seen this plant before? This is a Pitcher Plant. This is one of the fascinating endemic floras found in Mount Guiting - Guiting. This plant is not insect friendly. Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants whose deep cavity filled with liquid is known as a pitfall trap. The sides of the pitcher plant are slippery which ensure that the trapped insects cannot climb out. They are very attractive that any person could be attracted to peep into its pitcher - shaped structure.

I haven't seen one yet, only in pictures. Is it also harmful to humans?

Actually, i do not know if it is harmful to humans. Maybe those really big ones. I have seen the small red variety of it.

I used to take care of a pitcher plant. I 'fed' it insects. What a blast!

We have similar plants in Australia. They are wonderfully adapted for catching insects.

@ridingbet I do not know if it closes. the one i saw in the internet is a frog which was trapped inside. the plant did not close while the frog is inside it.

Yes . It is found in Mt. Guiting Guiting. Maybe it grew that big because it is in a thick forest.

Yes that's right. There is a chemical like in the spout of the plant that attracts insects.

You know what else is wonderful and harmful? When you wake up early in the morning and take your morning poo & it's so wonderful.. but then, eew what is that smell? HARMFUL
