Bad Work Ethic Wears Down Many

United States
February 23, 2017 5:26am CST
Time to run around and get myself ready to head out the door. Another 9 hour work day. Lately it has been the norm. Have one client who has been hospitalized and they added others to my schedule due to one of our workers up and quitting without notice. Who does that? People count on someone being there. If you don't want to work in healthcare don't apply. Yes, the workload can be grueling some days, but if you like what you do, it makes it easier. Unfortunately some just don't have good work ethics. Makes it harder on those that have to pull the load when they just up and quit. And nevermind about the clients that have grown to depend on them too. So, I am off and running. Sigh. At least the weather will be nice today.

That is pretty unforgiveable really. It makes it so much harder for everyone else.

Even if I disliked my job and wanted to quit, I would give a 2 week notice so they could fill the position.

One of my clients is in the hospital and they are giving me a lot of new clients this week. Not that I mind seeing new people, but so many in one week can be trying.

Sounds really tough going for you. I wish I could go back to work again but it would have to be part time. Have a great day ahead though.

Eventually I will only work part-time. I want to have more free time.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Until we can get our bills paid down, I will have to work full-time.

@ElusiveButterfly If you like working only part-time then that is it. You have to do what you feel is best for you.

I am appalled at the work ethic of so many these days, taking time off and coming in late, not something I would have considered doing when I have work that needs doing!!

I am one that never takes time off unless I am truly sick. Went to work today with a migraine. Battled with the migraine all day long. Now I am home and exhausted.

@ElusiveButterfly That was my work ethic too, I always had a job where I didn't have a backup person so if I wasn't there to do my job, work didn't happen.

@BelleStarr some clients get shorter visits or have to be cancelled altogether. That isn't fair to Them.

I do like the extra money, but money isn't everything. I prefer to have more time to myself.

It is always best to give notice at a job so they can find someone to replace you. Now you are left picking up this workers slack basically.

All the best @ElusiveButterfly ! Sorry that one of your workers just quit. Many don't realise how demanding it is to be a carer, maybe she/he just could not cope. Very unsettling for the clients that have gotten used to them.

It really makes me angry when they up and leave without any notice. The clients always ask why and there isn't much you can say to them when you don't know.

It is hard to work with someone who has no work ethics and you find yourself doing double duty when they quit. I hope you're able to get more help soon.

They have hired more LNA's, but we need PCA's too.

Some people are selfish. They think only of what is best for them.

I can understand if you start a job and decide that you don't like it. However, don't leave others high and dry. Give a notice to those that count on you.
