LOVE: small word, many meanings

I love chocolate walnut fudge. I love my husband. I love to read books by Ted Dekker. I love to sing in church. Same word, different meanings. We need different words in English for the word love. Even though I'm crazy about chocolate fudge, I do actually love my husband more. The world's definition of love is different than the meaning found in God's Holy Word, our Bible. The world says, "If you love power, get it any way you can. If you love wealth, steal and lie all you want in order to get it. If you love fame, do whatever it takes to be noticed." God's Word says, "Do not love the world or anything in it....Love one another...Love not with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth...This is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 Corinthians 13 is even called the love chapter. The Apostle Paul gives a clear and very practical list of what love is and is not. He writes, "Love is NOT boastful or proud or rude. It doesn't anger easily and doesn't keep score. Love IS patient, kind, rejoices with the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres." So even though Valentine's Day is over, when we show true, Godly love to others, it's just like showing love to God Himself. Love, such a small word, but such a powerful one.

Certainly a very powerful word. And it's good you love your husband more than chocolate fudge.

@JudyEv Well, maybe not ice cream, but throw in some extra nuts and a nice cold glass of my sweet tea and I might have to think about it.

I think there are definitely different levels of love we feel. I love food but I love kids more.... Unconditionally!

This is beautiful. Love really is a small word but it is such a powerful strong feeling that it can either build or break barriers.

love is the best thing in the world and the only thing that will last so we must keep it in all of our hearts as much as we love God. Love heals all the pain in the world and that is why it is the most important thing that we must always choose.

When we choose to love, we choose God. The Bible says God is love.

Beautifully written. There are many types of love. I love pizza. I also love summer. I love my mom and I have loved romantically. I struggle with the pure Biblical love at times though. It is easy to remember hurts and be mistrustful of others...

That's true. There are so many different kinds of love, some are easier to feel and show to others.
