Hand sewn felt alphabets for my son

My eldest son's birthday is on 26 Feb, one more day to go, and I have been busy sewing these alphabets for him. Finally, they are all done. I started to let my kids watch Word World lately, and they like it so much, especially my son. He always draws with the alphabets like how the Word Things or Word Friends in the show and cut out some letters with paper to form words. I think he will like these. Perhaps I will make more letters, so we can even use these to play some games, like Scrabble. When I wanted to take a picture of them, then I realized "M" is missing. I will have to sew it soon. I will need to make a pouch for him to keep these felt letters too. I am also crocheting a cow for him, but I don't think I can finish it on time. Do you like to play Word game? Can you suggest any Word games to me? Thanks! Picture by me: Hand sewn felt alphabets (without M)

Happy early birthday to your son!!!!! I remember Word World - oh my gosh it's been so long since we've watched that! I absolutely adore these letters you made!! If you need that "M", you can always use the "W" (unless those 2 letters need to be in the same word ). I used to love Hangman - my kids do too!
Hangman is a quick and easy game for at least two people that requires nothing more than paper, pencil, and the ability to spell. One player, the "the host," makes up a secret word, while the other player tries to guess the word by asking...

Thanks. I don't let my kids watch much TV, but I think Word World is fun and my children learn English from the show. I enjoy seeing them making their own activities after watching the shows. Yes, when I sewed the alphabets, I think M and W are exactly the same. I am thinking of making a "alphabet hunt" game for my son tomorrow, so I'll need to have the full set of letters for him to search. Anyway, I have made the M. Hangman is fun, I liked to play it too. Thanks for suggesting that. Now that my eldest son knows more English words, I think he will enjoy this game too.

@JudyEv Though I enjoy the game, I don't understand why they want to "hang the man". I guess this is the reason I didn't want to introduce the game to my young kids yet. I will go and find out the alternative.

This is a fun game. It is interesting that in Australia they now call it something else as 'hangman' doesn't sit well with many of our refugee children who have seen some horrific acts in their short lives. I don't know what they call it now though.

Lovely creations! What kind of stuffing do you use for the felt alphabets?

Thanks. I put cotton inside. At first I thought of just leaving out the stuffing, and let the letters be flat, because I was lazy. But I think it's still better to have some stuffing as it's more comfortable and easier to hold.

@infatuatedbby I can't remember. I actually simply choose a color for each letter, or pick the scrap felt that is enough for that letter. Like I requires much lesser felt, and W requires more.

Thanks. I actually got the template from an online site, though I thought of just writing out the letters on my own, I decided to just print out the template to save my time. Sewing took me quite a lot of time too, especially having to nurse my baby frequently.

@JudyEv I am still fine with sewing, but find it more tedious to stuff. I think it takes more work to stuff. Now my little girl requested another set of letters for her too.

@kaka135 There would be quite a lot of sewing involved in 26 letters.

Very nice! I let my students watch Word World occasionally. They really like it too. They also like making letters with play-doh and have recently started making their names with it!

Thanks! Are you preschool teacher? It's so nice to be a preschool teacher, and be with the kids almost everyday. Yes, we use the modeling beewax to make the letters too. I also plan to make some straight lines and curved lines, and let my kids form the letter. I saw a product like this and think it's quite good to show all the letters can be formed by straight and/or curved lines, or basically everything.

@kaka135 yes, I teach pre-kindergarten. They can be such sweethearts and other times they are so mischievous We work to together to make a chart for different lines and we refer back to it all year when forming letters and numbers. It really helps them to remember how to do it!!
