A visit to an Orphanage

This is the second time I visited the same orphanage. It is an orphanage which protects and makes a stay for those people who left on roads with deep wounds and disability, missed from other places due to mental disability, thrown by children on old age etc. I visited there first time in January 2016 then again on 23rd January 2017. Both times I went with our neighbour. The intention of our visit was to feed lunch to those people, who stay in the orphanage, on the occasion of the birthday of neighbour’s grandchildren. Last time I felt sad on watching many physically wounded people as well as fractured people. But this time they are alright and there are no wounded people left anymore. The situation is far better than the last time and I felt happy on their improvement. I also learnt that now days many people are coming forward to provide food for those hapless people. They do keep the photograph of a person when they brought him in then keeps another photo when the person gets healed and become healthy. They keep the same photos (how he was on brought and after healing) in one page of album so that the visitors gets an idea how they are doing their service. They also run another orphanage for children (here only adult gents) at a different place. We are planning to go there next time. Have you visited an orphanage?

@pureme Yes, I too felt the same on seeing them on second time. They look healthy and happy. Some of them have mental problems too. But they were silent and have not done any nuisance unlike the first visit.

@Sreekala It was a fulfilling one. I was touched by the children. I also get to have an experience of having my OJT at the home for the aged. It was more touching.

God bless your good heart! Keep doing that good thing. No, I have not visited an orphanage but depressed areas and this is part of our church activities to feed the body and soul of the less fortunate ones.

Yeah i have been to two different orphanages and one school for the handicapped children. I felt very sad on visiting those people. However when I went to the school for the handicapped children there was this blind guy and he had a talent - he had an amazing voice and the teachers were trying to register him in a national singing competition

Mostly blind people are very talented on singing. In our village there is a blind school- orphanage and many children in that school are well versed on singing. When they born with disabilities God given some extra abilities to shine them in the world.

I visit places like these whenever back in India. You know we have them a plenty and maybe few more would do fine. I visited a lepers home before leaving India and gave away almost all what I could give.

It is not good to watch the sad people. I too may not go myself unless I got an opportunity in the form of an invitation.

Depends on what part of the country you live in. Here they call them recovery facilities. Where they have people come for a while that are not able to care for themselves and need a more specialized treatment. Many times this could be people who are homeless etc. And many times their treatments are not always the Best depending on the type of Medical care someone can afford.

I have not visited an orphanage but once my kids grow up a bit and I have saved a bit more, I shall probably be able to visit one. I do contribute via Section 80 G donations to some established and certified NGOs. But volunteering is totally different and much more noble.

Thank you for your response. Luckily I got opportunity to watch how the life of people in an orphanage. It is not good to get a life in an orphanage. However, those who are deserted by destiny have a shelter.

Yes I have visited orphanage a number of times, probably because I work with an NGO so it has been part of our duties to always pay a visit to them

Yes. Last time we held feeding program in an orphanage here in my country. It feels good to see them smile for small things you can do for them. However, makes my heart bleed knowing they were abandoned or left alone. :(
