And Then There Were None : A Mylot Experience

No, this won't be one of the stories I seldom write. Though I suppose you could say this is a discussion about the "casting" sheet, in a manner of speaking.
Before I begin, "And Then There Were None" is a book by Agatha Christie. It is about a group of people who were summoned to a home that is on an island off of the coast of Britain. The people arrive and take on differing roles. It quickly becomes apparent that each person while being very different, each have a secret that binds them together. They end up in a situation that is very much "Every Man for Himself."
I began to think of what it might be like if we were all on an island, in a big beautiful house, but stranded together. I believe we would each take on roles much like the people in the book. We might come together at the beginning, striking bonds and establishing "cliques" so to speak. However, as time progresses and the food rations become less, we would begin to strike out against one another.
It actually happens now, though not to that drastic of a degree. We do form "cliques" with other mylotters. Perhaps intentionally, perhaps not. We are all different though, and have different opinions on every day topics that come to pass here.
One such topic that becomes a constant is that of the guidelines. It seems that several of us, on a daily basis, task ourselves with approaching the newcomers and attempting to right their wrongs.
In the setting of the island, it would be like us on top of the hill, looking down at approaching visitors, and condeming them as they approach. I could imagine a small group of us standing above and shouting out directions. "That skirt is too short! You really need to change it." or "That belt (links) isn't allowed! Take it off at once!"
To those newcomers it appears as if we are condeming them before we've had a chance to meet them. To us on the hill, we are constructively (although perhaps aggresively at times) criticising them.
Which side is right? Which side is wrong? When does it become apparent that we are all "trapped" on this island, and there is nothing we can do for it but "fall in line."
Unlike the movie, there will never be a time where the only two remaining are the "most correct" ones. We might struggle, trying to find the "culprit", but where one "culrpit" is vanquished, another appears.
What then do we do?
*Forgive my waxing poetic*

Unlike being maroon on an island we can always leave myLot whenever we like. There are a few who have taken the role of censors and I believe they contribute to the improvement of this site. But the majority of us go above our activities and have always extend the warmest of welcome to new members.

I try to balance between being on the "welcome wagon" and on the "boot bandwagon."
In other words, I try to be as polite as possible and help when I can. It's not always the easiest task, nor is it always appreciated.

Yes, but this is only another discussion in many we have had on this topic.

We might be driving away the new comers in row boats before they touch land not knowing they have new provisions and supplies.

Ah, you are quite right!
Though I don't think it's everyone's intentions to drive them away. Merely suggest that they carry the supplies a bit differently.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yes unintentionally driven off depending on how they were rebuked, we will have to rememner that all of us islanders were once like them floating adrift

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially in such cases of those who do not want to listen. People that come in, go against guidelines, get their account deleted and then come back come to mind.

Yes, but isn't that only for those who believe in the power of prayer?

@ScribbledAdNauseum No I don't think I have seen either of the movies. I really hate when movies deviate from the books. I did watch the Poirot TV series on Netflix a few years ago. I've read every single Poirot novel written by Agatha Christie! I read them in order too!

@katsmeow1213 I haven't gotten around to Poirot yet. I'm not a "book" fan of Agatha Christie's. I was introduced to the movie and hadn't read the book. Mostly becauae, like you, I prefer the book over the movie and don't want to go back and read the book to find the movie lacking.

Haha, I thought you might get excited, so that's why I posted the disclaimer at the top. Though, wouldn't And Then There Were None be a perfect setting for a mylot story?
Have you seen the original movie they made off the book? I think the movie was made in the 30's or 40's. Then there is a more recent one, a British Reproduction.
I didn't like it as much because the ending was different than the original movie.
