Favorite 70's R&B Songs #4 - "Reasons"

I think you are going to like this one: #4 in my Favorite 70's R&B Songs series is "Reasons" by Earth, Wind & Fire. Led by vocalist/percussionist Maurice White, Earth, Wind & Fire formed in Chicago in 1970, and went on to become one of the world's top bands. Check this out: The six-time Grammy winners have sold over 100 million records worldwide, and are in both the Rock and Roll and Vocal Group Halls of Fame. Additionally, Maurice White, vocalist Philip Bailey, bassist Verdine White, keyboardist Larry Dunn, and guitarist Al McKay are all in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. (The next time you're in Hollywood, be sure to look for the band's star on the Walk of Fame.) A legendary live band, Earth, Wind & Fire were the first African American act to sell out Madison Square Garden, and once played the White House at the behest of President Barack Obama. None other than the great Miles Davis declared Earth, Wind & Fire his favorite band. "Reasons" is from their soundtrack to the 1975 movie, That's the Way of the World, in which they play "the band." (It's a terrible movie, by the way, but the triple platinum soundtrack is awesome!) Oddly, "Reasons" was not released as a single, yet I'm going to stick myself out there and say that it is probably Earth, Wind & Fire's most popular song. And why not? An endurring, romantic love ballad featuring Philip Bailey's thrilling falsetto? What's not to like? "Reasons" has been covered by The Manhattans, R&B singer Miki Howard, and jazz saxophonist Nelson Rangell. As far as 70's R&B goes, it really doesn't get any better than this. But wait until you see the top three...... (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Number 4, man I am behind. When I listen to these it brings back my childhood of listening to the radio.

I have some EW&F tracks, but not heard this one before. I have to say it has that distinctive EW&F sound

It's classic EWF. Pity they didn't release it as a single. It would have been huge.

@teamfreak16 Sometimes I'd love to know the reasoning behind these decisions

I was lucky to get to see them in the 80's.

They were a big staple of the 1970's without a doubt. Along with Tavares and The Tramps. But back then, many genres of music were very popular. Even Tower of Power.

Funny you should mention Tower of Power. "You're Still a Young Man" was earlier in this countdown!

Oh, yeah. And you can see bad movies for the bands in it (I saw Zachariah because Doug Kershaw and the James Gang were in it).

I watched the remake of Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club because of EWF and Peter Frampton.

I saw That's the Way of the World when it was released and what always remained in mind was the concert scene. Wasn't it the piano lifted into the air?

I think so. I haven't seen it since before I moved here in 1980. I just remember thinking it was really bad.

At least it sounds like the soundtrack for the movie makes up for the B-ness of it.... always nice to have 1 redeeming feature. :-)
