Well today was a busy day.. went to the eye doctor after not going last year.. (probably a good thing as I can't afford new glasses every year) And my eyes well one of them changed and the other was really not too bad.
The place I get my exam at (Lenscrafters) has frames but not a good selection IMO. And quite expensive, My roommate also got her eyes examined and got a quote (with insurance paying some) of about $460 for glasses...
Well we ended up going to Sears Optical and she got glasses for only $260 there.. quite a big difference!
My on the other hand.. I wasn't quite as lucky with amount I paid but I did get 2 pairs of glasses they had a buy one get one free sale. (that is basically frames- lenses still cost big money) but I got 2 pairs for the LOW LOW Price of $696... OUCH!
That is because I now get Progressive bifocals and all the bells and whistles
such as Anti scratch and anti glare. (you would think that would just be normal stuff they do to protect but no.. you have to pay extra for it!)
Anyway.. I hope there is no change in my vision next year.. because I can't afford to do this again for a while.
So, have you been surprised by the cost of the things you Need just to be a functioning human?

The healthcare industry pays many members of Congress billions of dollars to make sure that there are no price controls imposed on health, dental, vision, mental healthcare and medications. That is a big part of why most Republicans want to repeal the ACA (a.k.a. Obamacare) and not replace it with anything. Other Republicans in Congress are willing to offer an alternative to the ACA, written in a way to benefit the HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY not to benefit the American public.

yea, I am not a fan of Obamacare... since this fiasco.. my insurance prices have skyrocketed and my healthcare has plummeted.. They like to tell me what medicine I am allowed.. not caring what medicine actually works for me, and on top of premiums increasing every year (astronomically in the last few years since Obamacare) my meds copays are and cost of meds themselves are ridiculously priced now!

I also need new glasses. I have the prescription, but I want all the same bells and whistles you want. I can't afford to have the prescription filled until we pay off the dental bills. If you think glasses are expensive, try getting four root canals and the crowns to go with them. So far it's costing us (since my husband is also having work done, over $20,000. Most of it is on credit with promotional deals that are interest-free for 3-6 months. then property taxes are due in April, along with income tax. It doesn't help that our Medicare premiums doubled, cutting our Social Security payments in half.

Wow, that's a doosey of a bill .. I was going to use CareCredit card to pay for my glasses so I could have 6 months to pay it.. and then I decided I would just charge it so I can earn cash back.. but lucky for me I just got my income tax money back and it is sitting in the bank... Remember that an eye Rx is only good for a year.. so if you don't get glasses with in that time then you will have to get a whole new eye exam done before you can get them. Good luck with those Bills.. I don't envy you.. although I do have plenty of work to do on my house.. I at least don't have to pay it all now I can do a little at a time.

my optometrist wanted me to have the progressive glasses but i declined because it was expensive. but when i went to my ophthalmologist, he said that progressive bifocals are no longer doing well and eyeglasses might return to having bifocals again. i had my new glasses last year after losing my one pair, and the lens still fit me well.
... than to lose your pair of eyeglasses. this is a status I placed on my FB wall a few days ago. It is really better to love and lost than to lose your...

My Uncle has the bifocals (not progressive) and HATES them says the line throws him off all the time and he actually sees less.. my first step into bifocals is with using the progressive and I like them a lot they have helped me quite a bit.

@ridingbet LOL. that is what I do.. I can actually read better when I pick up my glasses.. but the progressives have actually helped me see more clearly when things were close to my face.. for instance
my cats would climb on me and sit on my chest and I wouldn't even be able to see their faces clearly-- right in front of me. It used to make me dizzy. Since I got the progressive Bifocals 2 years ago that has no longer been an issue.. but I still lift up my glasses to read up close.. lol

@minx267 i also have difficulty using my bifocals because since i am far-sighted, i tend to lift my specks up in odder to read, say, the prints on desktop. but since i am far-sighted,i remove my specs when i go out to the city, but use them when i need to read something
