Beautiful Bahamas but the beach is off limits

So I am in beautiful Bahamas. Finally got away from the cold and ice. However, I am still waiting to enjoy the beach. The wind has been brutal since yesterday and we are essentially banned from swimming. We did take a walk on the windswept beach with crashing waves. Great for surfers not so great for swimmers. Anyway there is plenty to keep me occupied inside and visited the nearby Atlantis Paradise Island resort just to acquaint myself with all the fun stuff that is available there. I hear the wind should be gone by tomorrow. Have you ever gone on vacation and the weather was not what you expected?

Often. The weather could be too cold, too warm, too wet, too dry....no not too dry. I've gone swimming in Pensacola in March....everyone told us the water was too cold. The air temperature was around 82F (28C). We told them....we are Canadian....the water wasn't too cold.
Two years ago I was in Oregon in January. We told the local ladies we were going to wade in the Pacific....they told us we were crazy. The water was cold, but we didn't mind....again we reminded them that we are accustomed to cold water. It would have been too cold to swim.

Yes we Canadians are a hardy bunch but when I am on vacation in the Caribbean, I expect it to be hot every day

@JamesHxstatic I still went wading. I managed to get my pants soaked by a rogue wave.

My needs were met when we were in Bahamas a few years ago. Getting to a new place and having a cruising experience is all what I wanted while at the Bahamas. I particularly liked the white sands of Coco cay Beach

We were at the Oregon coast last weekend and the days alternated between gale-force wind and rain and beautiful sun.

I actually heard about the wind in Florida on the news and I taught it sounded so much like the Bahamas.

@Freelanzer It's been extremely breezy since Thursday. We are on The Intercostal and can see the ocean. No way would I even walk on the beach in this wind. Don't worry, once it stops, it will be sunny and beautiful again for the rest of the week. Paradise Island is so beautiful. Nassau is great for shopping and eating. Have a great time!

Actually the day I moved to Israel it was raining and very very windy and I thought to myself what am I doing. I hope the weather cleared up. It is so nice to get away from the cold and ice and not to go to somewhere you feel you never left home.

Yes one time I went to the ocean and it was rainy awful weather the whole time we were there. My daughter wound up sick the second night. What is the temperature there in the Bahamas? With it being windy I am picturing our snowy cold weather here but I don't think that can be the case there especially if you are wanting to swim ha ha. What is the big brown thing in the photo?

It was like 68F with winds more than 30 miles an hour. It was chilly.

Yes, I went down to Turks and Caicos in January and the cold snap had reached all the way down there. It was supposed to be in the 80s and was in the 60s, but only for the first day, and then it warmed up after that.
And then in North Carolina many years before that there was a waterspout the one morning, but that was really cool to see. And another day was driving wind and brutal surf, and another time was scorching heat waves that made the beach impossible to walk on. It's tough to go down on vacation and get trapped inside!
Of course, there was that time when I went to Florida and the weather was great, but a school of jellyfish blew in and I got stung all over my back. But they weren't dangerous, just annoying. I'm glad it wasn't a Portuguese Man of War, I found one of those on the beach that morning!

@Freelanzer It was a whole school of them, but they were small and the stings were instant and then over. So it wasn't bad.
A sea urchin must hurt, since they have really long spines.
They were all fun trips regardless. The heat wave one was a little overbearing though.

I guess you can plan a vacation but not the weather. That jellyfish must have hurt. When I on another vacation in Jamaica, people were getting stung by something in the water. The lifeguard went in and pulled out a sea urchin. All was well after that.

When I went to China it poured hard for 13 out of 14 days! We only had one sunny day!

I booked a vacation once to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, and four days before my vacation started, a hurricane hit the island. When we arrived for our paradise vacation, there wasn't much left of the paradise!

That was too bad. I am surprised the airlines still flew there after a hurricane.

@Freelanzer It was on a cruise ship. They did tell all the passengers they were considering re-routing the ship to another island, but then they decided to just maintain the original itinerary.
