Complain, Complain, Complain

Do you know anyone who complains about everything and anything even when it’s none of their business? Yes, we all complain about things but some people just take it way to far.
If my neighbor leaves and comes back with groceries then five minutes later leaves again and comes back with more groceries, it’s none of anyone’s business why he made two trips. There is no reason for anyone, who does not live in this guy’s household, to complain about it. But there are people who do.
To me, that is totally silly. But it begs the question, why do some people complain all the time? Is it to get attention? Is it to hear themselves talk? Or is it simple just so they have something to talk about?
I think there are times when we all would like to tell (and have told) someone who complains all the time to just shut up.
Years ago I worked with a woman who was always complaining about one thing or another. Everyday, day in and day out. One day I got totally fed up with it. I said, “Oh, WHAAA, WHAAA!” (I was later told it sounded just like a baby crying.)
The woman stop talking and stood there staring at me. Then she busted up laughing. “I guess you’re sick of hearing me complain,” she said.
It didn’t totally cure her but every time I felt she had gone on too long with her complaining I would do that. I was told that there were coworkers asking where the baby crying was coming from and being told, “Oh, that’s just Richard telling Rose* to quit her whining.”
Rose told me one day she was complaining to her boyfriend when she heard, in her mind, my baby cry and realized had gone on too long. She shut up. I think her boyfriend owes me a big thank you.
*Rose was not her real name.

I worked with a woman who complained about everything constantly. Eventually I avoided her in the lunch room and would rather go outside for a walk. Mu lunch time was my down time and she only made me depressed.

The last couple of jobs I had I always ate my lunch in my car. It was a good break to get away from everyone.

“Oh, WHAAA, WHAAA!”
Oh yah, I can think of a lot of chronic complainers. I think they are not self aware - they don't realize they go on and on and burden people with their stories. It's easier for them to talk for hours about their problems rather than doing something about them. And if it's not about their problems but someone else's business, then maybe they have too much time on their hands
