The Nose Knows

There are some medical procedures I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Today I had an ENT appointment with the dreaded "nose probe."
The probe itself usually isn't the worst part of the procedure. It's the numbing of the nose. They spray this stuff up your nose, and after a few minutes you're good to safely walk into a Limburger cheese factory with three angry skunks. No taste, no smell...and, of course, no feeling, either, as they slither that little probe up your nose and look all around the well-numbed areas of the nose and throat.
The good news is that my senses of taste and smell have sort of returned. More good news is that there's nothing severely wrong. The ear drum has been dealing with such pressure over the past couple of weeks that it's inverted, which is causing the pain and the dizziness. The doctor assured me there's no fluid left behind the ear, and -- thanks the the steroid nasal spray they gave me -- things should be back to normal in a couple of weeks.
I'm guessing my ear will be better before my poor nose.
Here's the classic Little Jimmy Dickens song about noses:

I am shuddering at your description. I never heard of this procedure.

It's like a colonoscopy, the prep is worse than the procedure. Well, smaller probe, too....

That doesn't sound like fun at all.
