Fitting All the Pieces Together

Puzzles and books have one thing in common, all the pieces need to fit together. Whether it's making certain the pieces of a puzzle are the right piece for where you want to put it, or the story a person writes works from beginning to end, everything must work together or it won't look right or read right when finished. I spent the last two days trying to get that edge to fit together. I even went through every piece in the box again to make certain I hadn't missed any because it wasn't coming out right. When I did have it together, it still didn't look right and I took the bottom edge apart again. It took some doing, as some of the pieces fit in a couple places, but they just didn't line up the way they should. After a couple hours watching a movie, and two episodes of Property Brothers, I finally had the puzzle together the way it belonged. I am also working on my book. There are a few pieces of the novel that also need to fit together, so I have been reworking some areas of the novel as well until I am satisfied with it. It has been a work in progress, just as the puzzle I'm putting together is. Both are enjoyable and frustrating as I work each to get it perfect. Both are puzzles that need to be put together so it all fits together perfectly. That is what I have been doing today. Working puzzles, picture and book. I know the results will be worth it when both are finished. Both are works of art. What have you been doing today? Thanks for reading.

I haven't done a puzzle in years, but so enjoy them, I guess I might have to get one and give that a go. I like the really big ones 1000 pieces or more.

This one is a thousand pieces. It's fitted, but it still has crazy shapes to them.

I'm sure it is. I saw a cousin's wall a couple years ago with the ancestry of the family on it and how it all descended from one family into so many branches.

@dfollin It was normal room size and he used only one wall of it. The other walls had pictures past and present of family members. One was a family picture of my grandfather as a baby.

Working.. as always. Debating whether or not I want to go to volleyball. If I skip volleyball I might be able to have a nice night out with my husband, which we don't get to do too often as we always need to keep an eye on the time as a child usually needs to be picked up from this practice or that one.. Wednesdays, now that basketball are over, are the only days nobody has anything going on.. Except one is still at rehearsals for musical, I thought he'd be done by now. If I don't hear from him soon I might as well just go to volleyball.

Interesting choice. Going out with your husband would be the better of the two if you can do it.

gram is the puzzle master, she told me to flip over the pieces if you aren't sure of the fit and look at the cardboard side, sometimes you can tell better

@just4him I dont know, she says it's easier to see how the fit is, I havent tried that

@Jessicalynnt That does make sense as you can see the piece and not distracted by the design.

I like doing puzzles but I do not like putting together used ones as they always seem to be missing pieces and it drives me absolutely nuts. It has been quite some time since I put a puzzle together.

I never thought of writing and puzzles like that; that's a great comparison. I'm glad you were able to fit the pieces and work on your book. My nieces and nephews have been working on puzzles lately, even looking for complete sets at thrift stores. :)

@just4him I think it's a good comparison. Puzzles are fun! My family went as far as buying puzzle glue. I don't use it for my small Snoopy puzzle (the only puzzle *I* have here) because I wanna be able to put it together whenever I want. :)

It's so much fun. I hadn't thought of it either until I was doing both of them and how they are both so much alike.

Sometimes when the edge just won't go together I leave it until I've done the parts near the edge.

It was a challenge. I need something to connect it to, so doing the inside first doesn't work for me, but I know a lot of people who do work puzzles that way.

I do not do the frame first. I start from the top and work my way down when I do puzzles.

That's a different way to do them. I've heard about a lot of different ways people do puzzles, top down is a first.

I would think that the puzzle would have to the easiest of the two but now you have me wondering. Today has been good. Everything crossed off my to-do list and I'm almost ready to relax for the rest of the day!!!

I'm glad you have everything crossed off your list. A few days ago as I was going through the characters of the series, I realized I missed some very important ones for this book. They might be secondary, but they are no less important. So I've been going back and seamlessly adding them to the story. When I finish with the first draft, I'll be reading it again and looking for any inconsistencies that would make a person just toss the book in the trash or hurl it across the room. It is at that time when I will also make certain all the historical facts are accurate as well. It is a puzzle. One that you as a reader don't notice because the author has done his or her work in getting the story right from beginning to end.

I do jigsaws online and it won't let you fit them together in correctly. Plus there are hundreds of puzzles to choose from.

I love puzzles but mostly do ones online right now since my table is loaded. Too bad you live the next state over, I'd come help. I do get to work on some when doing some jobs for people. One in particular always has one started and I'll sit while my employees are working or stop to put in a piece or two when I walk by. If we're doing okay on time I might walk by more than needed, lol. I see you had some back issues, hope it's doing better. Thought I should come see what's up in your neck of the woods since I've not seen you around as much lately.

Been too long since I worked on a puzzle. Guess the same goes with our life. We make each circumstance fit all together.
