Snow, Sunday, Seriously

Just when we started to get comfortable with the idea that winter had left eastern North Carolina the weather prognosticators inform us that we might be seeing some wintry precipitation this Sunday. I am beside myself at the idea that, after all the beautiful, warm weekends we had in February when we couldn't go camping our first camping trip of the season may be cut short due to snow and ice. It just doesn't seem fair. Since the yucky stuff isn't supposed to get here until Sunday, we are still leaving to go camping Friday after school. Depending on the forecast Saturday afternoon, we may stick it out, or we may pack it up and come home after dinner Saturday evening. We're lucky this first club camping weekend is only about 45 minutes to an hour away, depending on traffic. I really need this getaway right now. What do you think of the trick Mother Nature wants to play on us here in eastern NC this weekend?

Seems I was in North Carolina at just the right time a week and a half ago. I hope you get some camping in before the snow hits.

February this year was one of the best months to be in North Carolina. Depending on how winter shapes up next year, my missus and I plan to be year round campers.

@fishtiger58 If next winter is as warm as this, we won't have to go far. There were several weekends in January and February that would have been very nice for camping.

Oh has our local news casters started to talk about it? I know that the European Models were talking about the potential of it. It's not supposed to be a lot though. Unless that too has changed.

Our local TV meteorologist, whose very reliable, is now saying the Raleigh area could see as much as three inches of snow. I'm hoping out our way it will stay rain.

@DWDavis The last model I saw didn't have much for your way. If I'm not mistaken your south of me. I'm in Forsyth County. I'll have to catch the weather report here in a few minutes.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It looks like we may get some snow or mix, but not much. I hope it doesn't stick or cause problems on the road.

It is pretty much hitting the whole east coast except the south, I am glad we aren't leaving until next weekend.

It is hard to imagine it will be snowing in three days while I'm sitting here outside a Starbucks in 78 degree weather enjoying a Frappicino.

By me here in NYC, they are calling for some snow on Friday. Not good. And so far nothing for Sunday. But they did mention a possible nor-easter on Tuesday next week. This weather is crazy. I guess we are seeing global warming at it's best now. But the new leaders of this screwed up country don't. Go figure. Well, try and enjoy your camping trip.

We really need this time off, too. I've camped in tents in the bitter cold with Scouts and had Arctic weather training in the Army, so I know how keep myself warm. Plus, our camper has a nice heater.

@DWDavis Well, that's good that you are equipped for that stuff and able to. But now they are no longer talking about snow on Sunday. They said for us here in NYC, snow tomorrow and a possible Nor-Easter on next Tuesday. This weather is so screwed up. But enjoy your camping trip.

As it turns out, due to a mechanical breakdown with the camper, we didn't even get to spend the first night.

I was in shorts most of February, and will be all week at least. However, historically, March and April are our worst months, so I expect at least a couple good storms yet.

February is usually our biggest snow month, those years we actually get snow. This year February behaved more like May. Now March wants to be schizophrenic, May one day, February the next.

We are doing somewhat better over here. No jackets needed today and with it being such a nice day, of a so far good week, I couldn't out off doing a bit of gardening. Curse you weather!

This fluctuation is not good at all. We do not have extremes here but change in weather on a day to day basis could be quite sometking to deal with.

I am sorry about that. We are supposed to have freezing temps as a low tomorrow night. With all the warm weather lately, I had hoped we would be past having anymore freezing lows.

I am very ready for real spring. I do worry though, as mild as winter has been, just how hot summer is going to be.
