So this morning my son competed in the Shakespeare Competition. He went against kids from 23 other schools. Some were really great, you could feel their emotion and energy. Some were extremely nervous and forgot all their lines. One cried after forgetting her lines My son did well. Everyone laughed at the start of his monologue. His biggest problems were that he rushed through his lines, something he's been known to do in the past and is working on it. He also wasn't quite loud enough. His voice is slightly strained right now due to all his rehearsals for the school musical next week. Other than that he had a good performance. But he did not win. There were 3 honorable mentions, and a 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place. He did not get any of the above. That's okay though.. he's young, and has a few more chances if he chooses to try again. For competing he did receive Shakespeare's Complete Works.. it is a huge book!! When the competition ended we rushed off to his drumline show and made it just in time for his group to go into warm ups before they took the floor. Then he and I went to lunch and had a nice chat.. Then we watched my daughter's Winterguard performance... Now we are home relaxing after our long day! Next up, the high school Musical next weekend.. Weekend after that we're going to see Wicked! Weekend after that is Championships for both the drumline and the Winterguard.. then we have 1 weekend with no plans (yet), then we go on vacation! I have some very exciting weeks ahead!

@JudyEv I didn't look inside, the print is probably very small.. but it's still a large book!

@katsmeow1213 The book was a great prize. I have all Shakespeare's works too but in two volumes. I can imagine it is a huge book.

Well congratulations to your son no matter what . . . it took a lot to even get to where he did - good for him and he should be proud! That's great he made it in time for the drumline too . . . so hard with there is a time conflict but it all worked out. Hope your daughter had a great time with her performance as well. You have your weekends set for the new few weeks . . . time flies when you're having fun!!!

Nah, he's been doing this sort of stuff for a few years now. Drumline for 3 years, this is his 4th year being part of the musical (2 years in tech crew, 2 years on stage), he also does soccer, marching band, and a few other various activities that come along like the Shakespeare competition.

Good for him for his effort and for having the chance to compete. I hope he competes again. He would have learned so much this time, it being his first. Sounds like a busy day.

As of right now he is considering trying again next year. I'm sure the teacher will convince him to give it another go whether he wants to or not.

I don't go to every event.. if it's too far away, or I'm working, I just can't. But if I can make it I'll go support them.
