What Happened to the Trees?

Today was catfood/litter day. Since it's in the mid-60's today, rather than take the bus, I walked the 2 1/2 miles to the store and caught the bus back.
There is a bike path that runs from Manitou Springs to Downtown Colorado Springs that I use as part of my walk. As I walked, I noticed that they have cut down every single tree along that particular section of path.
As it turns out, they are installing lights along the path, for safety reasons. Which I totally get. I've had to ride that part of the bike path at night a couple times, and it can be a little unnerving. You can barely make out where you are going, you can't see if anyone might be lurking on the side of the trail, it's a bit disorienting to say the least. And yet, it's safer than walking on that section of the avenue that runs adjacent to the path, where you are likely to get hit by a car because it's a blind curve and there is no sidewalk.
So in this particular instance, I understand. Still a shame, though.

Perhaps they will replant trees else where. They did that here, they were putting in more sidewalks and just replanted trees somewhere else. Start new life and give us more oxygen! As well as keeping people safe!

That is nice they are adding more light, but did they have to cut down the trees also?

Apparently so. Hope they plant new ones when they finish.

Soon. I'm going to have my neighbor do it. He's a bike mechanic.

Yes, I like pedalling under trees, but I can see why. You'll have to knock youself up a bike trailer, then when you are not up to your neck in snow, you can save on the bus fare. I have a specialised pet trailer, so I can pedal the moggie to the vet!

I wonder what they will do with the wood. To a lumber yard, fire wood, maybe to a chainsaw artist.

There is a chainsaw artist right here in Manitou. I saw him rolling a log down the street a couple years ago!
