Buckingham Palace This evening I watched a documentary about Buckingham Palace that was outstanding. I certainly learned a LOT of things that I did not know about this Palace and the Royal Family. I would love to have visited it, but although I have been to London, there was no time to visit the palace. Have you ever visited Buckingham Palace? I know there are several on myLot who live in England and others who have travelled to England. What do you think is the most interesting thing a person would be able to see at Buckingham Palace?

Yes, I have been to Buckingham Palace. The big thing to see is the changing of the guard.

Yes, I have heard that the changing of the guard is something worth seeing. I have seen it on TV. It would be really nice to see it in person. Good for you.

I have to say that I haven't really fancied a visit to 'Buck House'. Having said that, if was an exhibition that grabbed my interest, I go, but the ones there have been didn't attract me

I have seen in recent years that several celebrations and events have been presented on the palace grounds. Most of what goes on there ends up on USA news, so I have seen some of it. It's not like being there though, I'm sure.

@IreneVincent I don't know, you had a revolution to get away from monarchy and now you all spend your time watching everything!

It really looks like a palace.

This documentary showed that while the palace is very elaborately decorated, it is deteriorating inside and out. The plumbing and wiring is old and the walls have settled. It would take millions of dollars to restore it to its former beauty. They said that if Prince Charles becomes King, he does not want to live there. Security has been a problem also.

@sol_cee I just hate to think how much it will cost. The English population think that the queen should have to pay for it. What do you think?

@IreneVincent I hope they won't let it crumble. It's a symbol of their country.

We watched the Changing of the Guard and also visited the Royal Mews where the carriages, horses and harnesses are kept. We have some lovely photos from that day although we actually visited it twice on separate occasions.

Yes, I was glad that I got to watch it. So very interesting. Many things about which I had no idea. Also, a lot of information about the family that I didn't know.
