Rainwater is a novel I read while sitting in the living room by the window that overlooked the front yard and pasture across the dirt road. The sun that streaked through the curtains lent an ambiance of the past to the room. A sepia tone draped across the room, aided only by the small lamp that was turned on to read by.
Rainwater is also the name of a novel I have been trying to remember for some time. I've talked about it here in the past. I've also remembered the synopsis a bit differently than what it actually was. I'm sure I was just getting two different books mixed up.
Regardless, it is the story of a woman living in the depression era in Texas. It tells of her struggles, especially of those with her troubled son. It talks about a boarder come to stay but who is supposedly dying. I forget the actual circumstances and events that transpire, but I do remember the feeling I got after reading this book.
I have ordered it, another physical copy. I don't buy physical copy books often, but I do if they've made me feel strongly.
Ella Barron, a single Texas mother, built a careful life running a boarding house in the Depression-era cotton South. But when a mysterio...

I'll be checking the audio books to see if it's available.

@Morleyhunt Ah. A lot of people seem to use the services offered through their local library for ebooks. Is it a free service?

@ScribbledAdNauseum My favorite audiobook is The Giver. I've listened to it 3 times. The movie didn't do it justice at all!

@AgoriphobicPirate I don't think I've heard of it. What is "The Giver" about?

I don't recall very many books I read in my teens. I read more as a child and preteen.
One of my favorite authors was also one of my mom's favorites. Grace Livingston Hill.

@ScribbledAdNauseum .....I read some of her books. Good author. I guess I recall the story more than names and authors. I read a lot of stories about horses.

@celticeagle Brentwood was my favorite book. Do you remember it?
It's about a woman who tries to connect with her blood family. She was given away at a young age because the family couldn't take care of her. Her adopted parents were filthy rich, when the mother passed, she left a letter on how to get in contact with the family.

@silvermist I remember someone else telling me that when they recommended the book to me. I wonder if the different style of this book was a good or bad move for her writing career.

I loved your description of the aura where you read it rather than the novel itself.

That feeling is still fresh in my mind after all these years. I haven't read the book since atleast 2009.

@amitkokiladitya Well thank you. It almost makes me wish I could capture that ambiance again.
I live in a different place now. There is one room that might come close to giving me the same feeling, but it'd be a bit too dark to read by.

The book sounds very sad. I want to talk about real rain for my response. We only get rain here in Israel where it rains in the winter. We need it badly so I am hoping in January, February and March it will rain a lot so that will help.

Sandra Brown is another author I've never read, but I've heard great things about her books.

I've only read this one book. I should probably see what else she has to offer. I've been told by others that this book seems to be far different from any other she's written.
