I feel like "facepalming" because I've been on the right scent for days! I had the right author but for some reason the title of this book eluded me. Google searches weren't bringing up anything either.
Probably because I got the era confused. I kept telling everyone here (who asked) that the book was depression era. It isn't. I was getting it confused with another book I talked about earlier.
This book is pretty good too! It's one I haven't read in quite some time but it will be on my "to be bought" list. I've already bought two books last night, so I'll wait awhile before I buy this one again.
The story is told through the eyes of a seven year old boy, atleast from what I can remember. It's a story of murder and mystery. I won't ruin it any further by trying to summarize myself.
Just go to the link I provide here if you want to know more about it.
**On a side note... I tried to sleep twice tonight because I have a package that needs to be signed for coming today. I usually sleep during the day but since the package is coming... The UPS suggest the package won't be delivered until atleast after three but I don't know whether to trust it... So it's either tempt trying to nap for a few hours at the time I regularly sleep or stay up all day....**
Until that September of 1952, Luke Chandler had never kept a secret or told a single lie. But in the long, hot summer of his seventh year...

HHmm. John Grisham is the author? Is it an action suspense novel?

More of a mystery. It's sort of slow paced from what I remember.
There are "action" scenes but not many that I recall.

@ridingbet pocketbooks? Over here, "pocketbooks" are purses or handbags.

I've never read any of John Grisham's books, but this one sounds good so I may have to give it a try.

Too bad you can't sleep near the door so it might wake you if he knocks.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ....Can you put a note up somewhere? So the person will knock or ring the bell?

@celticeagle I thought of doing that.
I actually ended up staying in the kitchen (which has a window that looks onto the porch) for the time allotted that the phone would be delivered... actually have to write a post about that.

Our front door opens into a foyer. The nearest couch is still too far away. There's a doorbell and I do hope he uses it! Sometimes they don't.
I did think about just sitting on the front porch and trying to sleep but I didn't want to wake up to something crawling on me.

There was a t.v. adaptation?
Was it like one of the hallmark movies?
