After all the great responses to our discussion about this unfortunate and miserable club aka IA, I wondered what many of you do on nights you can't sleep. I can relate to the old joke, "I slept like a baby last night. I was up every two hours." Do you read or play games on your computer? Do you eat a snack? What about a movie on TV or take a warm bath? MyLot? After turning over and over trying to go back to sleep (that's assuming I ever went to sleep in the first place), I sometimes get a snack and yes, I know that's not a good idea. I like to get on myLot and see who else is wide awake. Of course, if it's the middle of the day for you, it's a good thing you're wide awake. Sometimes I take another half of my sleeping pill or maybe some Ibuprofen if I'm hurting a lot. When I'm having a spell of either not being able to go to sleep or not staying asleep or both, I really resent my bed. I know that I will be absolutely miserable. But during times like now, I love my cozy comfy bed and look forward to a good night's sleep. Our bodies and minds truly can't function for long without sleep. God designed sleep to restore and refresh us. Unfortunately, our bodies and minds don't always cooperate with God's plan. Whatever the time is where you are, may you be blessed with a long and wonderful night's rest! What are some things you do when you can't sleep?

I just don't go to bed until really late, that way I am almost sure I'll fall asleep. If I do have difficulty I sometimes move to the living room couch and try and sleep there for awhile. Not very often do I actually DO anything because I feel that takes valuable time away from getting to sleep. I've been known to read, and then I get frustrated because I fall asleep in the middle of a chapter. Once in awhile I will amble from the bathroom to the cookie cupboard. I've learned that I have to give my sleeping pills more than an hour to work so need to take them early.

I need a couple of hours for my pill to make me sleepy. I have learned that if I go to bed before I feel sleepy, I'll be awake for hours.

That bed in the picture looks so inviting I just might fall asleep immediately. This definitely will not work for everyone - but it has worked for me many times -- I put in my favorite Worship CD and I fall asleep before it is finished.

That's a wonderful idea. I love to fall asleep praying, being in the presence of God.

@Kandae11 Sometimes I turn on my sound machine. I always fall asleep before it goes off. I think it's got a one hour timer on it.

When Vince went to Nepal for six weeks I had a huge declutter and cleaned and tidied up here, there and everywhere. When I can't sleep I go over all the things I got done in that period as it makes me feel good and stops me thinking about other things. And I find I tend to drift off before I get to the end of my decluttering, etc.
