Fake Crepes

So apparently I'm on a roll with the word "fake". Crepes - incase you didn't know are thin, flat French pancake. I think in order to make the authentically you need a special iron and special wooden tool for turning them. After watching a show on travel and food - I improvised my own recipe for them. Had I only known there was a much easier way to fake my crepes. Simply buy some pancake mix and add more water than what is called for - in order to make a runny batter. Well - my fake crepes made with runny pancake batter aren't very pleasant looking and are almost impossible to turn over in 1 piece, but they taste delicious and last night I discovered that by adding shredded cheese makes them a delicacy. I am proud of my ingenuity and think I will go make some for dinner now. :-)

Thanks for the tip. I use very slow fire to enable me to flip them but it's still hard to maintain its shape. Well as long as it taste good, I can overlook the shape

Oh good idea - I have been turning the heat higher, but maybe that makes it harder to flip them.

We often make crepes at home. My mother threw them in the air to turn them but I would never dare. So I wait until it is dry and use a plastic tool to turn them. Sometimes I help myself with the other hand

@FayeHazel I´m sure that if I ever turned one like my motherdid, it would land on the floor, wrong side up.

I love crepes, but have to have something sweet on them, @FayeHazel . I have a monster of a sweet tooth. :)

Ah, I am more tempted by the savory myself. Next time I do it I may try to add onion tops

@FayeHazel I like the traditional lemon juice and sugar, or sometimes chocolate spread and banana. But I also like savoury fillings like cream cheese and smoked salmon, cold roast beef and horseradish, or hot fillings like chilli or courgette and blue cheese sauce.

@Fleura Oh you have a brilliant mind for these things. I know the sweets people in my family like the usual syrups, jams, jellies, but the cream cheese, cold cuts chili etc.... is brilliant. Never thought on it. I now really want to try the lemon, too

Vince makes his own batter and has a small pan he uses. The edges are more 'gentle' I guess and he flips his crepes.

Oh wow - I wonder what his flipping secret is - lol, no really I have been having trouble prying them off the pan in 1 piece.

@FayeHazel The first one is always a disaster for some reason and sticks. He uses an egg, milk and flour and puts the mixture in the fridge for an hour or two. Then heats a little oil and away he goes. You might need more practice! I keep telling Vince he needs more practice. I don't mind eating his 'practices'.
