From all of those question in the world of rock and roll song titles I move over to country music...and here are more questions! Here's the next song on my list of favorite country songs that have a question for a title.
#6: Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone) - Tanya Tucker
Oh, my, but weren't we getting provocative in country music in the early 70s? As I mentioned in the "songs that make me cringe" series, Conway Twitty had a major hit with a song that was banned for being sexually suggestive. Then there was Loretta Lynn getting banned for songs like "Rated 'X'" and "The Pill."
And then there was this song by Tanya Tucker. This one raised far more eyebrows than the others because, when this song was released as a single in 1973, she was only fifteen years old.
I remember Tucker doing an interview when the song came out, in which she assured everyone that it was "just a song," and she would never have sex before marriage. (Then along came Glen Campbell, and....well, you know the rest.)
So it's provocative. It's also dang good.
