Former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan has been hired by ESPN to work on their NFL Sunday Countdown show.
Ryan had worked with ESPN during Super Bowl LI and he impressed the powers that be to hire him to work on Sunday to give his knowledge of football games to the fans.
My belief is that since ESPN has had to lay off some of their sports reporters who in my opinion are comedians in disguise needed someone like Ryan who was known for his oddball press conferences when he was the head coach of the Jets and Bills.
What is the old saying again? "Even Superman cannot save ESPN from their recent tailspin."

Well, I guess they all partly hire for personalities, as well as knowledge of the game. Surprised ESPN isn't doing well, there are a lot of sports fans around.

According to some of their former employees who worked for ESPN who are either working for Fox Sports 1 or another network, they were upset that ESPN executives do not allow political or religious discussion on their shows.

@Deepizzaguy hmmm well I think I agree with ESPN on that one. People tune in to hear about sports not other subjects.

@snowy22315 But it is okay for Bob Ley of Outside The Lines to devote time about the politics in sports. Go figure.

Well at least he found a job. Not sure how long it will last though. We only watch ESPN when tennis or a football game we want to see is on. I use to watch them before they hired some of their anchors. Just like news channels or talk shows when I see them on I go to another channel. Don't want to hear anything from them but scores and highlights of games.

That is why their network is basically on life support according to Colin Cowherd who now is employed by Fox Sports 1. Sports Center does not show many highlights anymore. Just gibberish.

His chances of coaching the NFL again are probably done.
